Better Call Saul’s Mid-Season Premiere Proves That Compelling Prequels Are Possible: Review

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Better Call Saul, Season 4 Episode 8, “Point and Shoot.”] After tonight, the number of remaining Better Call Saul episodes can be counted on one hand, and “Point and Shoot” does an exquisite job of making clear why that is so simultaneously exciting and sad. While it’s yet to be seen if one of TV’s great artistic achievements will fully stick the landing, the beginning of the show’s final run of new episodes packs an entire season’s worth of stress into its slightly extended runtime, while also continuing to deliver the kind of nuanced, character-driven moments which make the show so unforgettable. It’s a pretty remarkable achievement given the nature of the series, which jumps back and forth occasionally in its timeline but for the bulk ...

Zack de la Rocha Injures Leg During Rage Against the Machine Concert

Zack de la Rocha apparently injured his leg during Rage Against the Machine’s concert in Chicago on Monday. According to Consequence correspondent Allen Halas, de la Rocha sustained the injury four songs into the band’s main set at Chicago’s United Center. He was helped off stage by the band’s crew members, but after a brief break the concert resumed with de la Rocha performing while seated on a monitor. He attempted to stand up at various points, but was unable to put any weight on the leg. Consequence has reached out to Rage Against the Machine’s representatives for more information. The Rehearsal Confirms Nathan Fielder Is a Comic Visionary: Review

The Pitch: Comedy has long mined the rich vein of desire running within most average citizens for fame — or at least some kind of recognition. That yen for the spotlight is what allowed ’60s duo Coyle and Sharpe and modern day bellower Billy Eichner to turn “man on the street” interviews into improvised gold and fed the creation of far too many prank shows. It’s also a craving that Nathan Fielder has spent the last decade twisting to absurdist ends, both on his acclaimed Comedy Central series Nathan For You and in his behind-the-scenes work on shows like How To with John Wilson and Sacha Baron Cohen’s Who Is America? In each one, everyday people willingly put themselves under the eye of a TV camera, often revealing too much of themselves in the process. The results are either damning, hear...

The Mountain Goats Share New Song “Wage Wars Get Rich Die Handsome”: Stream

The Mountain Goats have release their rollicking new single “Wage Wars Get Rich Die Handsome.” The song is taken from the group’s upcoming twentieth album Bleed Out, which is due to drop on August 19th. Listen below. “Wage Wars…” is filled to the brim with high-octane life advice, which the Durham, North Carolina indie rockers distill over churning guitars and crashing cymbals as frontman John Darnielle sneers, “Floor the pedal at the green light/ Watch the traffic all drift right/ Barrel forward unimpeded, switch lanes as needed/ Be flexible, be unreplaceable/ In a world of heavy footprints, be untraceable” before jumping into the shout-along chorus. “When I write an album that revolves around a theme, it usually takes two or three songs before I notice what’s going on,” Darnielle confess...

Stranger Things Actor Joseph Quinn Actually Mastered Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” on Guitar: Watch

Editor’s Note: The following article contains some minor spoilers for Stranger Things Season 4. While Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo’s son Tye played “additional guitar tracks” for a key scene in Stranger Things in which the character of Eddie Munson shreds “Master of Puppets,” credit should also go to actor Joseph Quinn for learning the metal classic himself. A new video posted by the writers of the popular Netflix series shows Quinn very ably playing the tune during a practice session. While it’s not clear which, if any, of the notes that are heard in the Season 4 finale of Stranger Things are actually being played by Quinn, he is seen playing the proper notes to “Master of Puppets” in the scene. Tye Trujillo was recruited to perform parts of the song, while guitarist Aiden Fisher’s h...

New music is on its way from Silversun Pickups. Today, the band announced their sixth album Physical Thrills and shared new single “Scared Together. Produced by Butch Vig, the LP is slated for release August 19th via their New Machine Recordings imprint and will arrive three years after 2019’s Widow’s Weeds. “This record is alive,” teased lead singer Brian Aubert in a statement. “It sits somewhere in between a collection of songs and an imaginary friend. Captain America 4 has landed Julius Onah as its director, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Best known for 2018’s The Cloverfield Paradox and the critically acclaimed 2019 film Luce, the Nigerian-American filmmaker will build off the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Anthony Mackie officially takes over as Cap from Chris Evans. Captain America 4 could pick right up where Mackie’s Sam “The Falcon” Wilson left off at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Elon Musk Officially Tries to Terminate Twitter Purchase

Elon Musk is officially trying — and here, ‘trying’ is a very important word — to break his $44 billion purchase agreement with Twitter. In a July 8th letter to the SEC, his representatives wrote, “Mr. Musk is terminating the Merger Agreement because Twitter is in material breach of multiple provisions of that Agreement,” and “appears to have made false and misleading representations upon which Mr. Musk relied when entering into the Merger Agreement.” As previously reported, Musk waived his rights to due diligence in his haste to consummate the Twitter deal, while also agreeing to pay a $1 billion penalty if he later backed out. He seems to have almost immediately regretted this, and very quickly began laying a legal groundwork to break the agreement without paying the fine....
