Sony Pictures have landed on Justin Lin as the director for their long-awaited One-Punch Man live-action film adaptation. The former Fast and Furious director joins Jumanji: The Next Level and Venom writers Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner on the project. One-Punch Man debuted as a webcomic by Japanese artist ONE back in 2009. The story follows Saitama, a superhero who, bored by his ability to defeat any enemy with a single punch, seeks out a worthy opponent. It was published as a manga in 2012 with illustrations by Yusuke Murata before hitting the US market in 2015. Since then, it’s been adapted into an anime series as well as video and mobile games. Avi and Ari Arad of Arad Productions will produce One-Punch Man, and Lin will serve as producer as well as dir...
Big news regarding the Joker sequel Todd Phillips teased last week: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joker 2 is going to be a musical, and Lady Gaga is in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix as Harley Quinn. While the report doesn’t say much about what a musical Joker would look like, it does make sense to cast the singer in such a project. THR says that neither Gaga nor Phoenix have been completely secured for the sequel, which, according to the script cover Phillips posted to Instagram, is called Joker: Folie à Deux. The French title translates to “shared madness,” which tipped us off to Harley Quinn’s appearance in the sequel. Now we’ll just have to wait to see how the pair’s “Bad Romance” fares on screen (sorry). Prior to Gaga, Margot Robbie played Harley Q...
Kim Kardashian spurred some Internet ire when she wore Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the 2022 Met Gala, especially after it was revealed that she couldn’t really fit in the invaluable dress in the first place. Now, it looks like those concerns may have been warranted, because the iconic garment appears to be damaged following the event. The Marilyn Monroe Collection posted before-and-after photos of Monroe’s dress, a Jean Louis design that she wore while singing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962, to Instagram. In the photo taken after Kardashian’s May 2nd Met Gala appearance, the back zipper appears stretched and crystals are missing from the garment, leaving only loose thread behind. “So much for keeping ‘the integrity of the dress,’” the account captioned the post. ...
Lizzo has released a new version of her latest single, “Grrrls,” after coming under criticism for using an ableist slur in a lyric. “Hold my bag, bitch, hold my bag / Do you see this shit? I’ma spaz,” Lizzo sings in the original version. In the update version, the lyric has been altered to: “Do you see this shit? Hold me back.” In a statement addressing the lyric chance, Lizzo said she would “never want to promote derogatory language.” Advertisement Related Video “As a fat Black woman in America, I’ve had many hurtful words used against me, so I understand the power words can have (whether intentionally, or in my case, unintentionally),” Lizzo added. “I’m proud to say there’s a new version of ‘Grrrls’ with a lyric change. This is the result of me listening and taking action. As an influent...
O-T Fagbenle has been keeping busy the last 12 months, between the release of Marvel’s Black Widow, the return to production for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5, and working on his own projects following the 2020 release of the original series Maxxx, which he wrote, directed, and starred in. The Pitch: It’s fitting that after four editions of Toy Story over the last 25 years, numerous spin-off shows and games, and a still-undisputed legacy status, Pixar simply wasn’t done telling stories in this universe. But this one is a bit of a curveball: In the year 1995, a young boy named Andy is given an action figure of Buzz Lightyear, a space ranger who served as the protagonist in Andy’s favorite film. Lightyear is that film. Lightyear promises to be the definitive origin story of one of the film’s most iconic characters, complete with a sci-fi backdrop, his signature attitude and catchphrase, and a major appearance from Buzz’s primary antagonist, Zurg. Though they’ve traded Tim Allen for Chris Evans in the recording booth, there’s undoubtedly a classic Pixar feel to Lightyear. The f...

When it comes to using the toilet, going No. 2 is not Post Malone’s No. 1 priority. Discussing songwriting on The Howard Stern Show, Posty said, “Shit literally comes to me, because I write all my songs on the can.” As the pop star explained, the process “very much so” relaxes him, and he’ll, ahem, post up in the bathroom for an “hour-and-a-half, two hours,” at a time. The ritual leaves him feeling flush with ideas. “I’d say about 30% of all my albums have been written on the shitter,” he explained. “I’d say 60% of lyrics have been written on the shitter.” Advertisement Related Video But this behavior caused the program’s host to worry. “Are you pushing the whole time?” Stern wanted to know. “Because you really could get hemorrhoids, and I’m not making a joke.” He’s not wron...
With the much-anticipated sequel to 2019’s Knives Out expected out later this year, writer and director Rian Johnson has revealed its title: Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. In the Twitter thread announcing the title, Johnson also shared how he was inspired by Agatha Christie’s work while working on the sequel. “Something I love about Agatha Christie is how she never tread water creatively,” he wrote. “I think there’s a misperception that her books use the same formula over and over, but fans know the opposite is true. It wasn’t just settings or murder methods, she was constantly stretching the genre conceptually.” Johnson continued, “Under the umbrella of the whodunnit she wrote spy thrillers, proto-slasher horrors, serial killer hunts, gothic romances, psychological character stud...
Philip Baker Hall, legendary character actor and frequent collaborator with Paul Thomas Anderson, is dead at the age of 90, his neighbor Sam Farmer confirmed. “My neighbor, friend, and one of the wisest, most talented and kindest people I’ve ever met, Philip Baker Hall, died peacefully last night,” Farmer wrote on Twitter. “He was surrounded by loved ones. The world has an empty space in it.” Hall had been suffering from emphysema for several years. Hall appeared in Anderson’s first three feature films, starring in Hard Eight and joining memorable ensembles in Boogie Nights and Magnolia. He also booked one of the most memorable guest parts in Seinfeld history as library cop Lt. Joe Bookman, and had scene-stealing roles as a doctor in Curb Your Enthus...
Joan Jett appeared virtually at SeaWorld’s annual shareholders meeting on Monday to excoriate the enterprise for its alleged animal abuses, namely their methods of forced breeding. Appearing on behalf of PETA, the punk rock icon said in prepared remarks: “SeaWorld has caused public outrage by continuing to forcibly breed bottlenose dolphins and beluga whales in order to create generations of animals who then suffer in cramped tanks, deprived of any semblance of a natural life.” “In the park’s breeding program, unwilling female dolphins are taken from the water and sometimes even drugged so they can’t fight back while SeaWorld staff thrust tubes filled with semen into their uteruses,” Jett went on to claim. “Some must endure this process repeatedly, only for their babies to die or be taken ...
