Princess Nokia Reveals New Single “Diva” and Music Video: Watch

Princess Nokia has premiered her new single “Diva” as well as the melodic track’s accompanying music video. Stream it below. Shot on location in Puerto Rico, the visual is a loving tribute to the island’s indigenous Taíno culture as the rising star name-drops Beyoncé, Shakira, Lemonade, “Hips Don’t Lie,” Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Aaliyah before rapping, “Yo, can’t stay in one place/ I was meant to be a star like a rocket in space/ I done went from internet to ahead of the race/ Feeling like I’m Ricky Bobby but I’m brown in the face/ I may be the new girl but I’ll never replace/ All the women here before me, making excellent taste/ I just learn from these women, do whatever it takes/ I’m the daughter of the witches that they burned at the stake.” “Diva” is the rapper-singer’s ...

Pharrell Releases “Cash In Cash Out” with Tyler, the Creator and 21 Savage: Stream

Pharrell Williams has delivered “Cash In Cash Out,” his new collaborative single featuring Tyler, the Creator and 21 Savage. Stream it below. The track was initially announced by Pharrell on May 31st via Instagram, and later teased with a snippet of 21 Savage’s verse via TikTok. The heavy-hitting track pays off its high expectations in full though, with an incomparable, winning chemistry between its three stars. It’s the first time the Grammy-winning producer and 21 Savage have appeared together on a song, though the Atlanta rapper openly shared his admiration for Williams when he dubbed him the “king of drip” in January via Twitter. The history between Pharrell and Tyler spans nearly the entire existence of the latter’s career, all the way back to “IFHY” on 2013’s WOLF. The elder producer...

BTS Releases Anthology Album PROOF with New Music: Stream

BTS are feeling nostalgic with their new anthology album PROOF, but the pop superstars have assured us that the best is “Yet to Come.” The project, which features the new single “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)” and several other fresh recordings, is available to stream below. A three-disc collection, PROOF compiles songs from BTS’ discography that “reflect the thoughts and ideas of the members on the past, present, and future of BTS,” a statement explains. Its June 10th release date is especially symbolic, as it coincides with BTS’ ninth anniversary as a band, and the annual BTS Festa that takes place on June 13th. The first disc begins with a remastered version of “Born Singer,” an unofficial release from when BTS debuted in 2013. Originally an interpolation of a track by J....

Grace Ives: Janky Star

Grace Ives works on a miniature scale. The New York musician’s early releases include an album of chirping ringtones and a covers EP of children’s nursery rhymes. Built for simplicity and repetition, these were fertile proving grounds for the synthesizer enthusiast. Pounding with warped vocals and a buzzy bassline, “Row Row Row (Your Boat)” is transformed into something like an Arular outtake; electro-pop legend M.I.A. was, after all, the inspiration for Ives’ preferred synth, the Roland MC-505. Using only that groovebox, she wrote and produced the entirety of 2019’s 2nd, a collection of pocket-sized pop songs that packed girl-group harmonies, skittering drum-n-bass beats, and Daft Punk robotics into just 22 minutes. On Janky Star, Ives broadens her sound—adding guitar and piano, and layer...

Christine McVie Says Cocaine and Champagne Made Her Perform Better

From infighting to drugs, Fleetwood Mac have long been a notoriously messy band, but looking back, singer-keyboardist Christine McVie doesn’t seem to regret any of it. In a recent interview with The Guardian, the artist even proclaimed that she thought her drugs of choice, cocaine and champagne, made her perform better. “I have to say I’m not guilt-free in that department but Stevie and I were very careful,” McVie said, when asked if she had any “blanks” in her memory from years of partying. “The boys used to get provided with cocaine in Heineken bottle tops onstage, but Stevie and I only did the tiny little spoons. I suppose sometimes we got a bit out-there, but we were quite restrained, really.” She added, “I always took fairly good care of myself. My drug of choice was cocaine and champ...

Britney Spears’ Ex-Husband Crashed Her Wedding, Promptly Tackled by Security

Police were called to Britney Spears’ Los Angeles residence on Thursday after her ex-husband, Jason Alexander, attempted to crash her wedding to Sam Asghari. TMZ reports that Alexander was confronted by Spears’ security, leading to a physical altercation. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department eventually responded and remain on the scene. It’s unclear why Alexander was motivated to crash the wedding. He and Spears were married for only 55 hours after a spur-of-the-moment Las Vegas wedding ceremony in 2004. Marvel Developing Villain Team-Up Movie Thunderbolts with Director Jake Schreier

Marvel fans have seen this coming for a while now, but reports indicate the studio is officially developing a villain team-up movie called Thunderbolts. Think of it like Marvel’s version of The Suicide Squad, only without the exploding heads. According to Deadline, the “top-secret” project has tapped Jake Schreier to helm the film. In Hollywood, Schreier may be best known for directing 2012’s Robot & Frank and episodes of both Dave and Lodge 49, but he cut his teeth in music videos. He’s directed videos for the likes of Kanye West (“Follow God,” “Closed on Sunday”) and HAIM (“Want You Back”), in addition to Chance the Rapper’s Magnificent Coloring World concert film. Black Widow screenwriter Eric Pearson is also onboard to write the script. Advertisement In the comics, o...

Eleven’s in Bloody Trouble in “Look Ahead” at Stranger Things 4 Vol. 2: Watch

Now that we’ve seen the first seven episodes of Stranger Things Season 4, Netflix has offered a “look ahead” at its remaining two episodes at the streamer’s annual Geeked Week event on Thursday. Scroll below to see the sneak peek of Volume 2. In the 30-second clip, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) has to come to terms with the havoc she’s inadvertently wreaked on Hawkins since we brought Will back from the Upside Down. She’s dressed in a bloody hospital gown as a demonic voice — perhaps Vecna — offers her a foreboding message: “It is over, Eleven. You have freed me. You can’t stop this now.” There aren’t many other plot points we can decipher from the preview, but there are a few things we can glean from the clip: Medieval costumes will be worn. Steve, Robin, and the rest of the gang will ...

She Wants Revenge Announce Summer Comeback Tour

She Wants Revenge are hitting the road. On Thursday, the dark alternative act announced the “Disappear Tour,” slate of summer headlining dates across the US. (The first occurred in 2012 following the release of the duo’s third and most recent album, 2011’s Valleyheart.) Back in April, Consequence even did a deep dive into the history and happening of the California-based darkwave act as part of our ongoing Whatever Happened To series. The cross-country trek begins August 11th at the Music Box in San Diego, California, before continuing on to cities like San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake City, and Las Vegas. After eleven other ...

Microsoft Making Glass Platters That Store Music Data

Microsoft officially has our backs for when the impending apocalypse wipes out our music libraries. The tech giant has partnered up with Oslo-based Elire Group for the latter’s Global Music Vault initiative, using pieces of glass to preserve the world’s most important music recordings. Together, Microsoft and Elire Group have created what they call a Proof of Concept (PoC) glass platter, which will store a sample selection of music files. The PoC platter is about the size of a coaster, and can hold 100 gigabytes of data in any digital format, encrypted or unencrypted. A laser encodes data in the platters by creating layers of microscopic engravings, which artificial intelligence algorithms can then read back by decoding those images and patterns. Microsoft debuted the PoC platters a f...
