During the closing credits of the premiere episode of Disney’s new series Ms. Marvel, a scorching hip-hop track can be heard playing in the background. As it turns out, the song, titled “Rozi,” is by Eva B, who is dubbed as Pakistan’s first-ever female rapper. Entirely rapped in Urdu, the track marks Eva B’s first release on Naughty Horses Records. Gingger Shankar co-wrote and produced “Rozi,” which features both Pakistani and Indian influences. The lyrics match the journey of Ms. Marvel protagonist Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) as a Muslim teenager navigating life in New Jersey. “Asar he ye mjhpe logon ki baton ka,” Eva B spits with authority. “Faraq he ye soch or duniya ki nazron ka/ Duniya to bolti thi bolti rahegi ye/ Himmat ka he parwana parwaz he hoslon ka.” Advertisement Rela...
Being Snoop Dogg’s personal blunt roller might be one of the dopest jobs in the world, and not just because you get to breathe in some rarified air. The Big Dogg is also a big supporter of his employees, and as global inflation has reached rates not seen since the 1970s, he’s offered raises to the people that matter most. Snoop first told us of his affinity for “P.B.R.s” — that’s “Professional Blunt Roller,” during a 2019 appearance on The Howard Stern Show. He also revealed that the position pays “$40- to $50,000 a year,” thus birthing one of the internet’s most beloved pieces of trivia. It had a viral moment again on June 6th, when the Twitter account UberFacts posted, “Snoop Dogg employs a full-time blunt roller who makes between $40,000 and $50,000 a year.” As it turned out, the i...
The Pitch: On May 3, 2022, a draft opinion from the Supreme Court leaked to Politico detailed the Court’s majority decision to reverse Roe v. Wade. The Roe v. Wade decision, which was declared in 1973, guaranteed the constitutional right for a pregnant woman or person to receive an abortion if they choose. In the years that followed, the ruling had allowed more Americans to have greater access to birth control and other forms of pregnancy-prevention measures without the risk of them losing their lives in the process. Given how integral Roe v. Wade has been to people across the country, the fact that it could be struck down is terrifying, to say the least. This landscape makes the release of The Janes, HBO’s latest documentary directed by Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes, so much more critical. B...

Formed in 1998 in Toronto, Metric have spent over two decades carving out a lane of their own in the alternative rock scene. Ryuichi Sakamoto is currently battling stage 4 cancer, the Japanese musician revealed in an essay published Tuesday. Sakamoto, 70, was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 and rectal cancer in 2021, but had previously offered few details about either cancers’ severity. Writing for the Japanese literary magazine Shincho (via Japan Times) this week, the legendary composer, pianist, and Yellow Magic Orchestra member revealed that he underwent surgery last October and December to remove cancer that had spread to both lungs. Stage 4 typically indicates that a patient’s prognosis is poor. Sakamoto shared the news in an article titled Living with Cancer, the first in a series of essays titled How Many More Times Will I See the Full Moon? in which he discusses his late era musical c...
