All Hail King Kendrick: Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers Debuts at No. 1

Five years passed between Kendrick Lamar’s last album DAMN and his new one, Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers, and during that time pawns have fallen off the board and knights have jumped around, but the king stayed the king. As Billboard has revealed, Mr. Morale has clinched the top spot in the Billboard Top 200 for the upcoming list dated May 28th. Along the way, Lamar has hit a couple of notable benchmarks. This is his fourth straight album to debut at No. 1, putting him in a tie for 14th place, well behind current record holders Taylor Swift, Kanye West, and Eminem, who each accomplished the feat 10 times in a row. Besides that, Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers moved 295,500 equivalent album units in its first week — the most of any album in 2022, beatin...

Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Soundtrack Features Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, Jack White, and More

If a soundtrack has both Elvis Presley’s and Baz Luhrmann’s names attached to it, chances are it’s gonna be good. Case in point: the OST to Luhrmann’s forthcoming biopic promises “original songs and recordings” by Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, and Jack White, just to name a few. Elvis will also feature contributions from Eminem, Denzel Curry, Diplo, Jazmine Sullivan, Gary Clark Jr., Måneskin. Kacey Musgraves previously revealed she would be covering “Can’t Help Falling In Love” for the soundtrack, while Doja Cat’s “Hound Dog”-sampling “Vegas” serves as the project’s first single. Of course, much of the soundtrack will come from the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself, as well as the man playing him, Austin Butler (who we’ve already heard do his best impression in the trailer). We’ll also hear ...

Slipknot Crush Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for First NYC Show in 13 Years: Recap, Photos + Video

There’s a certain poignancy to Slipknot’s choice of pre-show piped-in track: AC/DC’s “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You).” That song was the emotional core of School of Rock for a reason. Amid the boredom and frustration and anxiety of daily life, it’s a sacred activity to transcend the B.S. with a healthy dose of heavy metal. And that’s exactly what thousands of dyed-hair suburban kids, up-for-anything parents and metal-loving weekend warriors did, packed into Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on the evening of May 20th. The mortar fire in the AC/DC tune gave way to actual pyrotechnics — to cheers. In an ironic twist, the track segued into country star Billie Jo Spears’ 1968 recording “Get Behind Me Satan and Push” — which locked onto the name “Satan” and seemed to melt. Devil’s...

The Better Call Saul Mid-Season Finale Was the True Beginning of the End

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Better Call Saul, Season 6, Episode 7, “Plan and Execution.”] What other show would devote a five-minute sequence to establishing its villain’s shower and nap routine? What other show would make it so captivating? That’s the special magic of Better Call Saul, which delivered a mid-season finale on Monday that redefined the concept of changing the game. For a good long portion of its runtime, so much of “Plan and Execution” fits with Better Call Saul as we’ve always known it. Central to the episode is the ultimate culmination of Jimmy and Kim’s plan to force a settlement of the Sandpiper lawsuit by ruining Howard Hamlin’s (Patrick Fabian) reputation — a combination of actual justice and petty revenge, motivations which both Jimmy (Bob Oden...

Noel Gallagher Got Headbutted, “Covered in Blood” Celebrating Manchester City Win

More than a few people would like to smash Noel Gallagher’s face in, including, as it turns out, some of his friends. During the thrilling final minutes of his beloved Manchester City F.C.’s victory on Sunday, which clinched the team’s fourth Premier League title in five years, the father of one of the players accidentally — but violently — headbutted Gallagher in the face, leaving him “on the floor covered in blood.” Man City entered the final five minutes down 0-2, before going on one of the greatest rallies in Premier League history to narrowly take the title. “As the third goal goes in, right, there is absolute bedlam,” Gallagher told talkSPORT. He added that he had been sitting near the family of the team’s defender Rúben Dias. “In the stadium where we sit, Rúben Dias’s fami...

Danny Boyle Wants John Lydon to “Attack” His Sex Pistols Series

John Lydon has long been an outspoken opponent of Danny Boyle’s upcoming Sex Pistols series, but his criticisms haven’t hurt the director. In an interview with The Guardian, Boyle took the artist’s critiques in stride, proclaiming, “I don’t want him to like [Pistol] — I want him to attack it.” Last year, Lydon attempted to block Boyle from using the Sex Pistols’ music in Pistol, the six-part series detailing the band’s whirlwind rise and fall. However, his former bandmates, guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook, countersued, ultimately allowing the band’s catalog to be featured in the show. Soon after, Lydon proclaimed that the series, which is based on Jones’ memoir,  Lonely Boy: Tales From a Sex Pistol, would “water down” the Sex Pistols’ legacy, and complained that ...
