Geezer Butler on Working with Rick Rubin on Black Sabbath’s 13: “I Still Don’t Know What He Did”

Geezer Butler is still confounded about Rick Rubin‘s production work on Black Sabbath‘s 2013 album 13. In a new interview with Eddie Trunk, the Black Sabbath bassist offered up a less-than-thrilled recollection of working with the acclaimed producer on what remains the band’s final album. “Some of it I liked, some of it I didn’t like particularly,” Butler said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “It was a weird experience, especially with being told to forget that you’re a heavy metal band. That was the first thing [Rick] said to us. He played us our very first album, and he said, ‘Cast your mind back to then when there was no such thing as heavy metal or anything like that, and pretend it’s the follow-up album to that,’ which is a ridiculous thing to think.” Advertisement Related Video The ...

Hayley Williams is bringing emo to the podcast scene with the premiere of her new BBC Sounds project, Everything Is Emo. The first episode of the 20-part podcast is out now, and some of the songs the Paramore frontwoman dives into are Jimmy Eat World’s “A Praise Chorus,” Panic! at the Disco’s “I Write Sins, Not Tragedies,” “Such Great Heights” by The Postal Service, and “Maps” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to publicly nerd out about bands and songs that make my favorite sub-genre feel like home to me,” the singer said in a statement. “And while it will be fun to take some trips down memory lane, I’m just as excited, if not more, to play music from new artists I’m discovering all the time.” Advertisement Related Video Williams went on to add, “Everything Is...

Sorry Folks, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie Film Won’t Feature “Barbie Girl”

Greta Gerwig cast Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as picturesque Barbie and Ken lookalikes in her forthcoming live-action Barbie film, but one missing thing may keep the adaptation from reaching peak camp: According to Variety, Aqua’s 1997 song “Barbie Girl,” which immortalized the Mattel doll’s life in plastic as a suggestive pop song, won’t appear in the film. “The song will not be used in the movie,” Ulrich Møller-Jørgensen, who manages Aqua lead singer Lene Nystrøm, simply said. While Møller-Jørgensen’s curt statement doesn’t give us much to go on, the omission of “Barbie Girl” from the film may have something to do with Aqua’s strained history with Mattel. “Barbie Girl” became an instant classic upon its release, selling over 1.4 million copies in the US and staying at No. 1 in th...

It’s produced by Future’s frequent collaborator ATL Jacob, who sets the mood with a sample of “Higher” by rising Nigerian singer Tems. Stepping into his introspective Hendrix persona, Future raps about a woman ...

Bruce Greenwood to Replace Frank Langella in Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher

Bruce Greenwood is replacing Frank Langella in Netflix’s upcoming series The Fall of the House of Usher, Variety reports. Earlier this month, Langella was fired from the show after an internal investigation determined that he “had been involved in unacceptable conduct on set.” It was later confirmed Langella’s misconduct involved making “an inappropriate joke that was sexual in nature.” Greenwood will now star as Roderick Usher in the eight-episode series, which is a modern retelling of Edgar Allan Poe’s story of the same name. Created by Mike Flanagan, the man behind The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, the show also stars Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, and Mark Hamill. Langella, 84, is best known for his roles in Frost/Nixon...
