Every Batman Movie Ranked From Worst to Best

This article was originally published in March 2016, prior to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. It has been updated to include that film as well as 2022’s The Batman. Batman’s lived so many lives. Whether it’s on page or onscreen, Bruce Wayne and his alter ego have occupied nearly every corner of the genre-sphere. From the garish comedy of Adam West’s kaleidoscopic crusader to the gravelly tones of Christian Bale’s dark knight, this is a franchise that’s proven its longevity and ability to evolve with the times. Batman’s modern reinvention came courtesy of Tim Burton, who in 1989 set the caped crusader against the gothic architecture and ominous strains of his aesthetic. It was an inspired pairing and one that’s seen its fair share of ups and downs as more cooks piled into the kitc...

ZZ TOP Announces ‘Raw’ Album, Spring/Summer 2022 U.S. Tour Dates

ZZ TOP will release a new album titled “Raw” that was recorded in connection with the band’s wildly popular and critically lauded 2019 Netflix documentary “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas”. The Grammy-nominated feature from Banger Films and director Sam Dunn includes an interlude that finds the group’s classic lineup — Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard and the late Dusty Hill — gathering for a very intimate session at Gruene Hall, “the oldest continually run dance hall in Texas.” That performance provided the basis for the “Raw” album release. The album’s title is derived from the unfettered and straightforward manner in which the tracks were recorded. As seen in the film, the bandmembers played, for the most part, together w...

Charlotte Adigéry / Bolis Pupul: Topical Dancer

Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul’s Topical Dancer is as blunt and emphatic as pop art—if you don’t get its bright, assertive takedowns, you’re not paying attention. The Belgian musicians take as much pleasure in sardonically dressing down racism, misogyny, and xenophobia as they do in crafting effortlessly propulsive electro pop fit for warehouse parties. That mischievous friction is at the heart of Topical Dancer, a riveting debut from two artists whose music pokes you in the side as often as it makes you move. Released on veteran Belgian duo Soulwax’s DEEWEE label, Topical Dancer openly draws on that group’s sweaty, mid-’00s-flavored blend of rock and electronic music. (Soulwax also contributed co-production and writing to the album.) Miss Kittin and Felix Da Housecat’s talky electrocla...

Eulogies – Wolves At The Gate

RATING: 9/10 “Eulogies” is a sharp, vibrant record that, like the band’s 2019 release “Eclipse”, was self-produced by Stephen Cobucci (clean vocals, songwriting, rhythm guitar) and Joey Alarcon (lead guitar). The album’s big, enveloping sound emphasizes just how fun, energetic and emotionally satisfying it is. While Wolves At The Gate embrace rather formulaic song structure — nearly every song’s bridge occurs about three quarters of the way through like clockwork — the melodic metalcore band’s dynamism and execution lends excitement to each track. From the charging opener “Shadows” to the inspiring title track to the epic closer “Silent Anthem”, WATG‘s multi-faceted approach and deftness at building momentum keep...
