Spiritualized had to push the release of Everything Was Beautiful to April, but they have shared a new song from the album as consolation. Listen to the rollicking new single “The Mainline Song” below. Roaring trains build to a chorus of synthesizers in “The Mainline Song,” which is more upbeat than you might expect from J Spaceman and company. “I wanted to know if you wanted to go to the city tonight,” Spaceman sings, as buzzing keys wash over him. Everything Was Beautiful was originally slated for a February 25th release, but manufacturing issues led the band to delay its release until April 22nd. Written during the pandemic, Spaceman plays 16 different instruments across the record, which also features a huge list of guest contributors along with string and brass sections and...
Benedict Cumberbatch is defending The Power of the Dog after actor Sam Elliott called the film a “piece of shit” and complained about “allusions of homosexuality.” Cumberbatch stars as Phil Burbank, a man whose carefully-cultivated machismo hides personal anxieties about his sexual preferences. For Cumberbatch’s work in director Jane Campion’s film, he’s been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and he’s being considered for the same honor at the 2022 BAFTA Awards. He recently participated in a BAFTA Film Sessions panel where he politely addressed the controversy. After answering a question about all the Phils still out there in the world today, he said he hoped The Power of the Dog helped explain “what poisons the well in men, what creates t...
Dizzee Rascal has been convicted of assaulting the mother of his two children. Following the jury’s guilty ruling Monday, March 7th, the British rapper smashed a press photographer’s camera outside the courthouse, ABC News reports. Back in August, Dizzee Rascal — born Dylan Kwabena Mills — was charged with assault following a June 2021 incident at a residential address in south London, which reportedly left his children’s mother, Cassandra Jones, with minor injuries. Prosecutors said Mills pressed his forehead against Jones’ and pushed her to the ground during a “chaotic” argument that broke out regarding custody arrangements. Neighbors called the police, to whom Mills reportedly said, “I’m the aggressor.” Later, Mills gave a prepared statement denying the allegations, claiming Jones ...
During an interview with Danny Wimmer Presents conducted at last September’s Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, ANTHRAX‘s Scott Ian and Frank Bello reflected on their first pandemic-era performance which took place two months earlier at Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin. Scott said: “The first date back was [July] 15th [of 2021], and I think it had been literally 20 months to the day for us since we had finished the ‘For All Kings’ tour. So, yeah, it was definitely exciting. It was very unreal — that’s how it felt for me — because it had been seemingly a long time. I don’t know that we’ve ever gone 20 months in our 40 years [without playing a show].” Asked if they felt nervous prior to taking the stage at Rock Fest after no...
In a new interview with Metal Edge, MINISTRY leader Al Jourgensen confirmed that he has already commenced work on the follow-up to “Moral Hygiene”, which was released last October via Nuclear Blast Records. “We have eight songs recorded right now, and even my engineer went, ‘This is total arena rock, dude,'” he said. “And I really feel like after that one, we have one more in us, which would be our 19th album. I don’t think I’m gonna hit 20, but I’m pretty certain we’re gonna have 19 by the time we’re done. So we’ll see. I mean, who knows, man? The world is just in such a state of fucking flux. You don’t know what’s gonna happen next fucking week. But this new record, it’s fun stuff.” Asked if h...
In a new interview with Australia’s Rockpit, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Jeff Gutt said that he is “humbled” to be singing songs first made famous by the band’s original frontman Scott Weiland and that in later years had been interpreted by Weiland‘s replacement, LINKIN PARK‘s Chester Bennington. “I looked up to those guys personally,” Gutt said about STONE TEMPLE PILOTS‘ previous singers. “I never met Scott, but I love Scott — he was a big influence on me when I was learning how to sing and what it meant to be a frontman and his fearlessness and all those things that made him who he was. So I learned a lot from him and to be able to go up there and sing those songs and carry on his legacy like that is definitely something I’...
