Because if...

Bryce Dessner Discusses Composing “Mateo’s Freedom” for the Bardo Soundtrack: Exclusive

When Bryce Dessner first worked with Alejandro González Iñárritu on The Revenant, one of the first lessons he learned from the director was “his incredible attention to detail for the smallest details.” Now, Consequence’s 2021 Composer of the Year has reunited with Iñárritu to score the soundtrack for the filmmaker’s latest project, Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths. Co-composed by Dessner and Iñárritu, the album features the track “Mateo’s Freedom,” which Consequence is exclusively premiering on Thursday (December 8th). “Nevermind Baby” Spencer Elden Appeals Child Pornography Suit Dismissal

Spencer Elden, better known in the music world — and now, perhaps, the legal world — as the “Nevermind Baby,” has appealed a September dismissal of his child pornography lawsuit against Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, Courtney Love, Universal Music Group, and Kirk Weddle, the latter of whom photographed a four-month-old Elden naked for the iconic cover art of Nirvana’s classic 1991 album. Now 31, Elden filed his first lawsuit stemming from the Nevermind cover back in August 2021, claiming that Nirvana had engaged in a “sex trafficking venture” by distributing the photo and were intending to “trigger a visceral sexual response from the viewer.” The defendants successfully filed a motion to dismiss the suit the following December, which Elden refiled weeks later. The suit was eve...

Robot Doll Goes on Killing Spree in New Trailer for M3GAN: Watch

Bella Poarch’s “Dolls” alludes to revenge with lines like, “Think that you can play with me, you better watch your back,” making it the perfect soundtrack for the latest trailer for the Blumhouse horror film M3GAN. In the clip, the titular AI-powered doll breaks free from her programming and goes on a murdering spree. Like most robots in fiction, M3GAN (short for Model 3 Generative Android) was made with good intentions. A toy company roboticist named Gemma (Allison Williams) created the doll to be the ultimate companion for children and gives a prototype to her orphaned niece Cady (The Haunting of Hill House’s Violet McGraw) to be both a protector and a companion. It’s exactly M3GAN’s protective instincts that cause the doll to commit her first murder after a bully won’t leave Cady alone....

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Californication” Passes One Billion Views on YouTube

Everybody’s been there and we don’t mean on vacation: Red Hot Chili Peppers’ music video for “Californication” has passed one billion views on YouTube. It’s RHCP’s first billion-eyeball video, Variety reports, averaging over 290,000 views per day in 2022. Released in 2000 and posted to YouTube in 2009, the video was directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. It stars shirtless band members Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante, both in real life and as digital, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater-style avatars. The video end with an earthquake swallowing band and California alike, and you can revisit it below. Shirley Manson on Garbage’s Anthology, James Bond Theme, and Next Album

Listen via Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts | Amazon Podcasts | Stitcher | Pocket Casts | Radio Public | RSS Shirley Manson catches up with Kyle Meredith to talk about Anthology, the new compilation from Garbage that traces their entire catalog through last year’s No Gods No Masters. Advertisement The frontwoman tells us how their record label talked them into the compilation and the struggle of it not being released in the US, how 2016’s Strange Little Birds went mostly overlooked, and “being erased from musical history” after the critical-slagging of their 1999 James Bond theme “The World Is Not Enough” (as well as the reappraisal that’s happened since).  Manson then gets into the financial risk of ...

Margot Robbie Improvised a Scene in Babylon Just So She Could Kiss Brad Pitt

What would you do if you were cast as the lead in a big-budget film opposite Brad Pitt? If you’re Margot Robbie, you carefully orchestrate an improvised kiss scene with him, the actress revealed in a new interview with E! News. The smooch in question will be seen in Babylon, the upcoming period drama from Damien Chazelle. Set in the late 1920s, Babylon follows a group of actors and filmmakers as they adapt to the movie business’ transition from silent films to talkies. Robbie stars as Nellie, an aspiring actress who turns to veteran actor Jack Conrad (Pitt) to help her make her Hollywood dreams come true. At some point, Robbie revealed, the two share an impromptu kiss. “That wasn’t in the script,” Robbie told E! News. “But I thought, ‘When else am I gonna get the chance to kiss Brad Pitt? ...

Wonder Woman 3 May No Longer Be Happening: Report

Add this to the chaos that currently surrounds DC Comics properties: A Gal Gadot-starring Wonder Woman 3 may not be moving forward. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the previously greenlit film looks to be a casualty of the regime change at WarnerMedia-owned DC, which recently hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to guide the next phase of the beloved characters on screen. Wonder Woman 3 was set to be directed by Patty Jenkins, and she and writer Geoff Johns had turned in a treatment for the new film before being told by Gunn and Safran that it wouldn’t fit into future plans for the franchise. (THR notes that canceling the film could save Warner millions of dollars, as both Gadot and Jenkins were to receive pay bumps.) More awkwardly, just a day ago Gadot posted a message to social media ...

How Princess Diana Inspired SZA’s S.O.S Album Cover Photo

We’re just hours away from S.O.S, the long-awaited sophomore album from SZA. After the TDE singer revealed the LP’s artwork earlier this week, some eagle-eyed fans spotted similarities between it and one very memorable photo of Princess Diana. The cover art for S.O.S features a photo of SZA sitting at the edge of what appears to be a diving board off a boat, with the surrounding water taking up the entire background of the shot. The inspiration photo in question is of Diana in a similar pose, aboard the Jonikal Yacht while on a summer trip in Portofino, Italy. That photo was taken in 1997, the same year the Princess of Wales tragically died at age 36. “Originally I was supposed to be on top of a shipping barge, but in the references that I pulled for that, I pulled...
