Cash-strapped Barcelona wants Sergio Aguero, David Alaba for free

Barcelona are hoping they can land Sergio Aguero and David Alaba on free transfers this summer after their contracts expire at Manchester City and Bayern Munich respectively. Aguero is expected to depart the Etihad Stadium after 10 years which have seen him become the club’s all-time top goal scorer with 256 goals and lift four Premier League titles in a glittering career. However, injuries have since caught up with the 32-year-old and he has now gone a full year without scoring a Premier League goal at the Etihad. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca see the striker as the ideal No 9 replacement for Luis Suarez, who departed for Atletico Madrid in the summer, in providing a big name signing for supporters. Barca are in desperate financial struggles following the coronavirus outbreak, and t...

‘Ready made Gini replacement’ – Some LFC fans react to the club’s offer to 28-yr-old

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Bayern Munich defender David Alaba. The Austrian international will be a free agent at the end of this season and he is now free to speak with prospective new clubs regarding a summer transfer. According to Italian journalist Romeo Agresti, the Premier League champions have now offered David Alaba a contract worth £9 million a season. The Reds are competing with Spanish giants Real Madrid for the 28-year-old defender’s signature and it will be interesting to see if they can fend off the competition and secure his services in the summer. David Alaba is a world-class player who would be a superb addition to the Liverpool team and the transfer will be a major coup if Liverpool manage to pull it off. The Austrian can play as a defensive midfielder...

Bayern Munich confirm David Alaba is set to leave the club

Bayern Munich have upped the ante in the David Alaba saga by withdrawing the contract extension offer that had been on the table. The versatile 28-year-old’s current deal with the Bavarians runs out at the end of the current season. While at times it has looked like an agreement between the two parties was only a matter of time, this latest development will intensify speculation that the Austria native will move elsewhere on a free transfer next summer. The club’s decision to break off negotiations was reported by German station Sport 1. Bayern president Herbert Hainer was quoted by BR24Sport broadcaster as saying: “We made a very good offer to David and his advisor a long time ago. “We negotiated for months […] and last time told David’s advisor that we wanted to have clarity by the end o...

David Alaba’s future in doubt as Bayern withdraw contract offer

Bayern Munich have withdrawn their contract offer to David Alaba, after failing to reach an agreement with the defender. The club’s president, Herbert Hainer, has revealed a deadline of 31 October was set to reach an agreement. Negotiations have now ended, after Alaba’s agent indicated their latest offer was not acceptable. The Austria international’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he will be free to discuss terms with rival clubs from January. A host of sides have been linked with a move for the defender, most notably Serie A champions Juventus. “We presented him with a really, very good very fair, competitive offer – especially during these times,” Hainer told BR24Sport. “We told David’s agent during the last meeting that we wanted clarity and an answer by the end of O...

Bayern coach bemoans lack of fans at ‘special’ Dortmund clash

Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick says the absence of spectators for Tuesday’s top-of-the-table Bundesliga clash at Borussia Dortmund will be a “missing factor”. Reigning champions Bayern thrashed second-placed Dortmund 4-0 last November in front of 75,000 fans at the Allianz Arena. But the teams will meet again in Dortmund with the stands at Signal Iduna Park — usually packed with 82,000 people — empty after the Bundesliga became the first top European league to return, behind closed doors, following the coronavirus lockdown. “It is a very special game,” Flick said on Monday, with Bayern heading to Dortmund with a four-point lead. “As a coach, there is no question that the fans are a missing factor.” Ten of the 18 league games since the restart have been won by the away team. “The atmo...
