Florence + The Machine’s Dance Fever is shuffling to the U.K. chart summit. According to the OCC, the British indie act’s latest boasts over 26,000 chart sales at the midway point, and is the best-selling title in physically and digital formats.  Dance Fever (via Polydor) leads the Official Albums Chart Update, and, if it keeps heading in the same direction, it’ll give Florence Welch and Co. their fourth leader, after Lungs (2009), Ceremonials (2011) and How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (2015). Inaugural Portola Music Festival to Feature M.I.A, James Blake and More

The lineup for the first ever Portola Music Festival has officially been unveiled. Set to take place on September 24 and September 25 at San Francisco’s Pier 80, the inaugural lineup will feature headliners Flume and The Chemical Brothers along with performances from M.I.A, James Blake, KAYTRANADA, Toro Y Moi, Charli XCX, Channel Tres, slowthai, Yves Tumor, Omar Apollo, PinkPantheress and more. The upcoming two-day festival was named after the 1909 Portola Festival, which marked the re-opening of San Francisco after the deadly 1906 earthquake that claimed the lives of over 3,000 people and destroyed more than 80% of the beloved city. Gorillaz Unveil First North American Tour Dates in Four Years

Gorillaz is hitting up North America for their first set of tour dates in four years. 2-D, Noodle, Murdoc Niccals and Russel Hobbs will be joined by supporting acts EARTHGANG and Jungle, and are set to kick off their North American leg with a Vancouver show in early September. Fans can then catch the band in areas like Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Brooklyn, and Philadelphia before they close out their tour in Miami in late October. The brainchild of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett released their latest project in August 2021 in the form of Meanwhile, a three-track EP featuring guest appearances from Jelani Blackman, Barrington Levy, AJ Tracey and Alicaì Harley. Ricky Gardiner, Guitarist for David Bowie and Iggy Pop, Dies at 73

Ricky Gardiner, a guitarist for Iggy Pop and David Bowie, has died. Iggy Pop and producer Tony Visconti shared the news on social media on Monday (May 16), with the former writing, “Dearest Ricky, lovely, lovely man, shirtless in your coveralls, nicest guy who ever played guitar. Thanks for the memories and the songs, rest eternal in peace.” A cause of death was not disclosed, but Gardiner’s longtime friend Visconti noted that the guitarist had been living with Parkinson’s disease. Ricky Gardiner was 73 years old. Sun Ra House in Philadelphia Is Now a Historic Landmark

Sun Ra House, the three-story Philadelphia building that has been a cradle for Sun Ra’s evolving Arkestra outfit since the 1960s, has been listed as a historic landmark in the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places. The building at 5626 Morton Street, also known as the Arkestral Institute of Sun Ra, reportedly still houses a number of Arkestra members, including current bandleader Marshall Allen. Allen had lived in the house since 1968. In 2021, he reported that the building had partially collapsed. On May 13, the Philadelphia Historical Commission unanimously voted to grant the protected status, a representative for the register said. Man Sentenced to More Than 17 Years in Fentanyl Distribution Case Connected to Mac Miller’s Death

Stephen Andrew Walter, one of three men charged in connection with Mac Miller’s death from a drug overdose, was sentenced to 17 years and six months in prison on charges of fentanyl distribution, Rolling Stone reports and Walter’s attorney has confirmed. Walter had previously agreed to a 17-year sentence as part of a plea agreement last year, but U.S. District Judge Otis D. Wright II rejected the plea on the grounds that Walter continued to sell the oxycontin pills that caused Miller’s overdose even after his death. Walter’s attorney William S. Harris told Pitchfork that his client did not know Miller and learned of his death upon his own arrest, and did not know the pills he sold to his co-defendant Cameron James Pettit—which Pettit later sold to Miller—contained fentanyl, but does not pl...
