Florida rapper and singer Rod Wave was arrested last night (May 1) on a felony charge of battery by strangulation, according to documents viewed by Pitchfork. Wave’s 2021 Dodge Durango was pulled over “after a traffic infraction occurred,” and he was subsequently arrested by the St. Petersburg Police Department at 10:34 p.m. on an out-of-county warrant issued by Osceola County, Florida. A series of videos posted to Rod Wave’s Instagram stories depict him driving in St. Petersburg and listening to music; the last showed him outside, his face illuminated by the lights of a police car. He is currently in custody at Pinellas County Jail. A representative for Rod Wave offered no comment when reached by Pitchfork. Rod Wave released his latest album, SoulFly, in March 2021. It debuted...
Just months after the delayed 2021 event took place in September, the 2022 Met Gala returned to its traditional spot of the first Monday in May at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year’s theme is gilded glamour, and as usual, some of the biggest stars in the world dressed extravagantly for the annual event. Guests at the Met Gala, which celebrates the exhibition “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” included Billie Eilish, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Phoebe Bridgers, SZA, Bad Bunny, Rosalía, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, Normani, Erykah Badu, Future, Lizzo, Anderson .Paak, Questlove, Janelle Monáe, Kacey Musgraves, Camila Cabello, Stromae, and many more. Dom Dolla has ice in his veins. It was s’no problem for the renowned “Take It” producer at Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, where a rogue flurry blanketed his fans during a show in late April. But the elements couldn’t stop Dolla from throwing down at the biggest headlining show of his career, in which he played to a sold-out crowd of 9,000 fans and debuted a new single, ironically called “Miracle Maker.” The concert, which Dolla said yielded the “best set of [his] life,” looked like it was plucked out of some kind of EDM-fueled fairytale. Polychromatic lasers sliced through the frigid air like a hot knife through butter, creating a kaleidoscopic effect that could only happen between the giant monoliths of Red Rocks. And D...
Lions and tigers and bears… and Whethan? Whethan recently DJed at an abandoned zoo in L.A., where he threw down for a surprise pop-up show. A police helicopter eventually showed up, but not before the prodigious “Savage” producer’s untamed performance, which showcased his new sophomore album MIDNIGHT. The performance was organized by Brownies & Lemonade at the Old Los Angeles Zoo, which they called “one of the wildest locations” they’d ever been for a show. It was the latest in the esteemed promoter’s “B&L Pop Up Series” following a sun-kissed DJ set by GRiZ at L.A.’s Dockweiler Beach in early April. Thanks to pie-in-the-sky sets like these, Brownies & Lemonade, who were named EDM.com‘s Best Event Orga...
In the months after Eyedress‘ HYPEBEAST Diaries, the rising indie star has witnessed his greatest dreams come true, whether the wider music industry cares or not. Both “Jealous” and “Romantic Lover” have earned Platinum and Gold certifications, which can be partially explained by his accidental virality on TikTok and to the past decade that he’s spent fine-tuning his sound. Eyedress’ debut on Coachella’s Sonora Stage is a milestone for the LA-based musician because he’s been able to get to this point by doing things his way with his friends. Eyedress is a notoriously simple guy, but preparing for Coachella requires countless tasks that occur outside of the studio where he and his recently formed band practice: there are hours of rehearsals, remixing on-stage visuals with Brvinfreeze, and w...

Michael Mignano, co-founder of the popular podcast creation platform Anchor, which was acquired by Spotify in 2019, submitted his resignation last week, a company spokesperson confirmed with Billboard. Mignano’s departure was first reported by The Verge. It is the latest shake-up on the podcasting side of Spotify. In April, a pair of top executives — Courtney Holt, head of talk partnerships, editorial and global markets, and Lydia Polgreen, managing director of Gimlet, which Spotify also acquired in 2019 — both announced plans to leave the company. Mignano founded Anchor with Nir Zicherman eight years ago. “We tried to start podcasts of our own… only to become discouraged by the complicated process and expensive hardware we found ourselves endlessly researching,” the two wrote in 2019...

Shawn Mendes returned to the Met Gala red carpet on Monday (May 2), capturing the Gilded Glamour theme with a classic early 1900s look. Mendes walked the carpet in a Tommy Hilfiger red and navy coat with his initials embroidered on the inner lining. He later removed the coat to reveal an equally sleek navy suit, which he completed with a matching turtleneck and nail polish. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Regina King, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds will serve as co-chairs of this year’s event with the theme of “Gilded Glamour,” inspired by the turn-of-the-century Gilded Age in American history. The theme encourages today’s biggest stars to interpret late 19th-century clothing through a modern lens. Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts an...
