Mushrooms aren’t always used for their hallucinogenic effects. They are used to create music, too. Artist and composer Tarun Nayar, who creates and performs music under the moniker Modern Biology, plugged mushrooms into a synthesizer and wrote music with the electrical waves the fungi produce. To achieve this sound, he places electrodes into the mushrooms and wires them up to his soundboard, allowing electrical signals to flow through the plants and trigger a synthesizer before turning them into sounds that humans can hear. Texas’ Astroworld Task Force Calls for Better Permitting Regulations and Security Training

A new report from the Texas Task Force on Concert Safety published Tuesday offered insights and takeaways from the November 5 tragedy at Travis Scott’s 2021 Astroworld Festival, Rolling Stone reports. The group, formed by Gov. Greg Abbott days after a crowd rush resulted in the deaths of 10 people, cited an inconsistent permitting process across Texas and lack of event security training and communication as contributing factors to the tragedy. Wavves have announced a summer tour to celebrate the 12th anniversary of their seminal album King of the Beach. The shows were originally planned for the record’s 10th birthday in 2020, but were pushed back due to the pandemic. The tour kicks off on July 21 in Ventura, California and sees the garage rock band stopping in major cities across the U.S. and Canada before concluding on August 27 in Los Angeles. Pooh Shiesty Sentenced to Five Years in Prison for Florida Gun Altercation

Pooh Shiesty, the 22-year-old rapper born Lontrell Williams, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his Florida gun conspiracy conviction in Miami Federal Court, Rolling Stone reports. In January, Shiesty pleaded guilty to one federal charge of conspiracy to possess a firearm in furtherance of violent and drug-trafficking crimes. The rapper originally faced a total of four charges, but three charges that could have resulted in a life-in-prison sentence were dropped. The charges stemmed from an October 2020 incident near Miami, where Shiesty was accused of participating in a robbery where two men were shot and injured.
