After torpedoing a four-year hiatus, it’s clear that Hardwell wants to make a statement with each new release. His latest is “F*CKING SOCIETY,” a menacing future rave anthem that arrived today by way of his Revealed Recordings imprint. Following the release of his two comeback tracks, “BROKEN MIRROR” and “INTO THE UNKNOWN,” the exhilarating single is the most compelling example of Hardwell’s new, cerebral direction so far. The lyrics of “F*CKING SOCIETY” are existentialist in nature, exploring our tendency as humans to willingly ignore the notion that we are merely cogs in the machine. A guttural voice conveys Hardwell’s message loud and clear: “They know our bullshit in the fucking society / Besides saying n...

Because of this unusual quality we wanted a younger, more energetic, modern approach to the vocal. Our engineer, mixer, and producer (Ross Hogarth) had worked extensively with Taylor and they were very close friends. When Ross suggested Taylor (being such a huge Foo Fighters fan) I said WOW—how perfect. and I know Doug will be absolutely thrilled. I had only just met Taylor, and barely got to know him, but I was so impressed by his sincerity, positive energy, and pure enthusiasm. He had a unique spontaneous style different from anyone I’ve ever worked with before. I can be very opinionated—but as soon as heard what he was doing, I knew it was best to step back, stay out of the way, and let him do his thing. That session was an experience I will never forget. When I tried to open a business...
Charli XCX has shared the latest visual from her new album Crash. In the new music video for “Used to Know Me,” directed by Alex Lill, Charli XCX plays with a few different personas—including a cheerleader, a leather queen, and Marie Antoinette. Check it out below. Charli XCX has shared a number of playful Crash visuals; she grinds on a coffin in the video for “Good Ones,” sings on a cloud in the clip for “Every Rule,” and busts out some synchronized dance moves for “Baby.” Last month, Charli XCX dropped the deluxe edition of Crash, which added four new songs to the original. The most popular oldies are getting younger. Since at least 2014, the market share of catalog has been rising – from just over 65.1% in 2020 to 69.8% of album consumption units last year, according to Luminate (formerly known as MRC Data). At the same time, though, the music that dominates the catalog category – defined by Billboard as albums released more than 18 months ago, as long as they’re not being actively promoted by labels or in the top half of the Billboard 200 – is more recent than ever. In a trend apparently driven by streaming, growth is now being driven mostly by older albums from newer artists – sometimes referred to as “shallow catalog” – rather than the “deep catalog” of the ’60s and ’70s rock acts that used to dominate the category. To get a sense of how profound this shi...
