Several episodes of the Adult Swim series Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Boondocks, and The Shivering Truth have been “permanently retired due to cultural sensitivities,” The Daily Beast has learned. The Adult Swim archives are part of the massive library offered by new streaming service HBO Max. But certain controversial episodes didn’t migrate over. Aqua Teen Hunger Force is missing the Season 6 shocker “Shake Like Me”, in which Shake is bitten by a radioactive Black person, the experience of which changes his appearance and behavior to be more stereotypically Black. ATHF also arrived without the incomplete Season 5 episode “Boston”, which is a parody of a real-life bomb scare caused by the guerrilla marketing campaign for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film...
Sure, Dolly Parton and Andrew Bird have holiday albums coming down the chimney this year, but 2020 deserves a darker sort of seasonal sing-a-long. Thankfully, Mark Lanegan is here to abide with his new Christmas album, Dark Mark Does Christmas 2020. Due out exclusively via Rough Trade record stores, the album is actually the ex-Screaming Trees frontman’s second holiday release under the Dark Mark moniker. The first, Dark Mark Does Christmas 2012, was a tour-only 12-inch EP featuring six tracks: “The Cherry Tree Carol”, “Down in Yon Forest”, “O Holy Night”, “We Three Kings”, “Coventry Carol”, and a cover of “Burn the Flames” by Roky Erickson. Five of those, including the Erickson cover, will make it onto the new LP, along with five freshly recorded songs. The new material comprises covers, ...
YoungBoy Never Broke Again is facing felony drugs and weapons charges after being arrested in Baton Rouge on Monday night, according to WAFB 9. The rapper, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, was taken into custody alongside 15 other people. Gaulden was reportedly charged with possession of a Schedule I drug and intent to distribute Schedule II and IV drugs, as well as with illegal possession of a firearm. Alleged video of the arrest was posted to YouTube, as you can see below. Gaulden was previously arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder following a shooting incident in 2016. He later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of aggravated assault with a firearm and was sentenced to a 10-year suspended prison sentence and three years active probation. In February 2019, Gaulden...
Earlier this year, Bon Iver released “PDLIF”, a COVID-19 benefit single featuring production from Jim-E Stack. Now, the two artists have teamed up once again for “Jeanie”, a new single off Stack’s forthcoming album Ephemera. October may be within sight, but today’s collaboration practically screams summer. Dripping in Autotune, Justin Vernon’s vocals seem weightless like a late-night August breeze. “Don’t want you to feel too much,” he sings, as though kissing off a seasonal fling. Stack’s multicolored, synth-stacked production, meanwhile, provides just the right dose of wistfulness, comfort, and groove. Hear it for yourself below. Ephemera, which also features Empress Of, Dijon, and Kacy Hill, officially arrives October 30th via AWAL. In recent months, Stack also had a hand in Charli XCX’...
With only days to go until The Album is unleashed, BLACKPINK have revealed the eight-song tracklist. Along with the Selena Gomez duet “Ice Cream”, The Album features one other eye-catching collaboration: Cardi B will be joining Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa on “Bet You Wanna”. Other track titles include “Pretty Savage”, “Lovesick Girls”, “Crazy Over You”, “Love to Hate Me”, and “You Never Know”. Editors’ Picks The Album arrives officially on October 2nd, and pre-orders are ongoing. In 2019, BLACKPINK shared the Kill This Love EP, which included one of our favorite songs of the year. Since then, South Korea’s m...
Billie Eilish’s long-in-the-works documentary from Apple TV+ has formally been announced today. Titled The World’s A Little Blurry, the feature film will hit theaters and Apple’s premium streaming platform in February 2021. The existence of the doc was first revealed in December 2019, when Apple TV+ acquired the project for a whopping $25 million dollars. The World’s A Little Blurry is expected to highlight Eilish’s incredible rise to fame, as well as showcase personal, behind-the-scenes moments from throughout her young yet already historic career. One of those private scenes, a throwback look at the pop megastar’s first piano lessons, is featured in the film’s newly unveiled teaser trailer. Watch below. The forthcoming doc was produced by Apple Original Films, in association with In...
Artists have been taking some understandable liberties with the conceit of NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) concert series. Recent performances saw Billie Eilish in front of a cut-out cardboard set of the NPR offices, Phoebe Bridgers behind a miniature Resolute Desk, and BTS inside a Seoul record shop. Bright Eyes might have them all beat, however, as their Tiny Desk (Home) show featured probably the biggest desk of all: a Neve 8068 recording console. The band’s Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis were at the latter’s ARC Studios in Omaha, Nebraska, where the massive mixing station resides. Their bandmate, Nate Walcott joined virtually from Lucy’s Meat Market in Los Angeles along with backup singer Becky “Lavender Diamond” Stark and their daughter. Despite being far apart and even farther from Bob Boi...
While the members of BTS have already amassed a large fortune from their chart-topping singles and sold-out stadium tours, today the K-pop superstars added tens of millions of more dollars to their collective net worth. Their latest influx of cash isn’t due to streaming royalties of ticket sales, however. Instead, BTS’s new-found “multi-millionaire” status can be attributed to their record label Big Hit Entertainment going public. According to CNN Business, Big Hit is South Korea’s biggest stock market listing in three years. The company is selling shares at $115 each, and has so far its raked in $822 million. Altogether, the label is currently valued at a colossal $4.1 billion. The seven members of BTS were each given 68,385 shares last month, which are currently valued at ...

21 Savage and Metro Boomin have announced Savage Mode 2, the follow-up to the 2016 trap blockbuster Savage Mode. The sequel arrives this Friday, October 2nd, and in the anticipation, the duo have shared a trailer narrated by none other than Morgan Freeman. The original EP came at a pivotal time in both men’s careers. Metro Boomin was 22 years old and already had half a dozen big hits under his belt. He may have been an in-demand beat-maker, but everybody knows Metro Boomin wants some more, and the collaboration with 21 Savage allowed him a chance to executive produce and expand his empire. As for Savage, he was a 23-year-old rising rapper in Atlanta with a pair of mixtapes to his name. After the co-sign from Metro Boomin, he became a star almost overnight. The Savage Mode 2 ...
Daniel Craig is ready to hang up his martini glass, and the rumors are full of big names who could put the “oh!” into 007. Now, Henry Cavill has announced his desire to be the next James Bond. The 37-year-old actor has already played Superman, Sherlock Holmes, and the titular monster-slayer of The Witcher. That might be enough pop culture dominance for a regular geek, but Cavill is true super nerd. Via GQ, he’s spent quarantine painting Warhammer figurines, and when he was cast in 2013’s Man of Steel, he famously missed the big phone call from Zack Snyder because he was mid-battle in World of Warcraft. Cavill said, “I saw it was him… but you can’t pause World of Warcraft, it’s live.” The actor has apparently always had a soft spot for the world’s greatest spy. In a...
