T. Rex’s Marc Bolan (photo via Ian Dickson:Wikipedia) and Peaches (photo by Philip Cosores) There’s a massive tribute album coming out this September that sees everyone from U2 to Father John Misty covering the music of Marc Bolan and T. Rex. The latest artist to share their contribution to the compilation is Peaches, whose cover of the 1972 T. Rex single “Solid Gold, Easy Action” is as big as it is fun. So far, the songs we’ve heard from the tribute album, dubbed AngelHeaded Hipster, have been pretty imaginative thanks to artists like Joan Jett, Kesha, and The Sword. But Peaches puts her own unique spin on her cover while still remaining pretty faithful to the original track. According to a press release, that’s in part due to Hal Willner, the album’s producer and a longtime pa...

Comedian Bryan Callen Accused of Sexual Assault by Four Women

Comedian Bryan Callen stands accused of rape and sexual misconduct. On Friday, The Los Angeles Times published an investigative report that included allegations from four separate women that span over two decades. According to the report, former MADtv cast member Katherine Fiore Tigerman stated that Callen raped her in 1999 after pleading with him to stop. That same year, former American Apparel employee Rachel Green alleged Callen pinned her against a dressing room wall. Green said she had pushed Callen off and immediately told her co-workers. Actress Claire Ganshert told the Times she met Callen in 2012 and claims she had a four-year affair with the comic while he was married. Callen reportedly told her that women have a “biological, primal desire to be raped.” Later in 2017, comic ...

Metallica Legend Cliff Burton’s Dad Ray Appears Posthumously at San Francisco Giants Game

Metallica legend Cliff Burton’s father, Ray Burton, who passed away at the age of 94 in January, appeared posthumously at a San Francisco Giants game this week — thanks to the new fan cutouts that are taking up seats at Major League Baseball stadiums this season. Following the tragic death of Cliff in a tour bus accident in 1986, Ray remained a longtime supporter of Metallica up until his death earlier this year. He often appeared at the band’s shows, where he was sometimes brought up on stage, and helped preserve the legacy of his son, one of metal’s greatest bassists of all time. With the MLB season having just kicked off after the original start was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teams are playing in empty stadiums. Several teams, including the Burton family’s hometown Giants, ar...

Stay Clean with Corpse-Paint Bar Soap in the Likeness of King Diamond, Abbath, Mayhem, and More

The minimal two-tone bars are subtlety ingenious and even kinda cute, depicting the iconic corpse paint of King Diamond and black-metal luminaries like Abbath, Mayhem, and more. You can also get a pentagram shaped dish on which to rest your corpse-paint bar soap. “This is one of the best things I’ve ever bought,” reads a customer review of the Euronymous soap, “they make the best gifts!” Even Cradle of Filth’s Dani Filth has endorsed the soap, calling it “the filthiest soap bar there is.” The soaps are hand...

Seth Rogen Says He Was “Fed a Huge Amount of Lies About Israel”

Seth Rogen pissed off North Korea with some truthiness in The Interview, and now he’s sparked similar backlash with recent comments about Israel. His remarks came during an interview on Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, ostensibly about the actor’s forthcoming HBO Max movie, An American Pickle. The film sees Rogen portray a Jewish immigrant who finds himself in Brooklyn in the early 1900s. When he falls into a pickle vat, the brine preserves him for a century, emerging to meet his grandson (also portrayed by Rogen), a secular Jew of the modern age. As Rogen and Maron are both Jewish, much of the conversation centered around their own experience with Judaism and identity. While much of the discussion was comedic and nuanced, some of the remarks have stirred controversy. When the idea of reloca...

Trump to Ban TikTok in the US

Donald Trump intends to ban TikTok in the US as soon as Saturday. Speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday night, Trump announced he would use emergency economic powers or an executive order to enforce the ban. Trump also said he is against the idea of a US-based company acquiring the Chinese-owned TikTok. Earlier on Friday, it was revealed that Microsoft had entered into negotiations to purchase the popular video sharing app. TikTok is estimated to have upwards of 65 million active users in the US and consistently ranks as among the most downloaded apps on Apple’s App Store. However, US government officials have expressed concerns over the amount of data collected by TikTok compared to other prominent social media platforms, especially given that TikTok is owned by...

Microsoft in Talks to Purchase TikTok

Amid threats that TikTok could soon be banned in the US because of its Chinese ownership, Microsoft has entered into negotiations to purchase the popular video sharing platform, according to the New York Times. Earlier this month, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo indiciated that the Trump Administration was considering banning TikTok, citing security and privacy concerns. On Friday, Trump himself confirmed as much, telling reporters that “We’re looking at TikTok, we may be banning TikTok. We may be doing some other things. There’s a couple of options. But a lot of things are happening, so we’ll see what happens. But we are looking at a lot of alternatives with respect to TikTok.” One possible option under consideration, according to Bloomberg, is to force TikTok to sell off its US opera...
