Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Shares Classic Footage of Nirvana, Pink Floyd and Rush

Throughout this period of self-isolation, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been keeping music fans at bay by uploading its vast archive to YouTube. A number of new videos have been made available in recent weeks, including footage from past induction ceremonies for Nirvana, Pink Floyd, RUSH, Bruce Springsteen, and Peter Gabriel. You can see the surviving members of Nirvana team up with St. Vincent to perform “Lithium”; Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour and Richard Wright joined by Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan for “Wish You Were Here”; RUSH performing “Tom Sawyer”, “Spirit of Radio”, and “2112: Overture”, the latter featuring Foo Fighters; Springsteen and Bob Dylan linking up for “Forever Young”; and Gabriel singing “Digging in the Dirt”. AMC Theaters and Universal Shorten Theatrical Window to 17 Days Under Landmark New Deal

The United States’ inability to effectively combat the coronavirus pandemic is already forcing lasting changes in the entertainment industry. The latest stems out of a new deal between AMC Theaters and Universal Pictures, which will see the theatrical exclusivity for newly released movies reduced to just 17 days. As The Hollywood Reporter reports, the deal only applies to AMC’s US locations, but covers releases from both Universal and Focus Features. After a 17-day period that must include three separate weekends, the studios will have the option to make their movies available as video on demand rentals. While details are largely being kept undisclosed, it appears AMC will receive a revenue share from the VOD streaming. This marks a huge about-face for AMC, which had frequently threat...

David Lynch is Spending His Time in Quarantine Making YouTube Videos

Quarantine has changed a lot for David Lynch. It’s given him time to jumpstart his weather report series, upload never-streamed-before short films, and literally voice his support for Black Live Matter. Arguably best of all, it’s granted him ample time to expand his YouTube channel and find some much needed inner peace, both of which he talked about in a rare new interview with The Daily Beast. The legendary director is a man of few words, but that didn’t stop him from explaining how the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has altered his life for the better. Technically he was already making plans for his YouTube channel, David Lynch Theater, after filming for Twin Peaks: The Return wrapped, but it wasn’t until the “beautiful” life of forced isolation arrived that he found time to brin...

Oh Sees (as OSees) Announce New Album Protean Threat, Share “Dreary Nonsense”: Stream

Every August for the last three years, Oh Sees have released a new album: Orc in 2017, Smote Reverser in 2018, and last year’s Face Stabber. Like everything in 2020, it looks like the John Dwyer-led band’s next effort will be arriving a little later than anticipated this year. Taking on the moniker OSees, the prolific garage rockers have today announced a new album, Protean Threat, set for a September 18th release via Castle Face Records. Described as “the apogee of scuzz,” Protean Threat is a 13-track collection calling to “abate hate” with a “club” of love. A typically aureate press release says the songs are meant as a rally cry to “stand up and be vigilant” against “the planet-killers.” The statement goes on, “TRUTH WILL NOT BE FOUND IN THE SPEECHES AND PHOTO OPS OF...

Korn Unveil Cover of Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” Featuring Yelawolf: Stream

Korn have unleashed a cover of the Charlie Daniels classic “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, featuring guest vocals from rapper Yelawolf. Proceeds from the song will benefit the nonprofit organization Awakening Youth. The track was recorded during the sessions for Korn’s 2019 album, The Nothing, but sees its release less than a month after the passing of Charlie Daniels himself. The country music and Southern rock legend died July 6th at the age of 83 after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. Korn’s version of the song features frontman Jonathan Davis trading verses with Yelawolf, as dueling guitar leads by Brian “Head” Welch and James “Munky” Shaffer offer a distorted take on the original track’s fiddle segments. Davis stated of the track, “I’ve always said it, but country music is some of th...

Angel Olsen Announces New Album Whole New Mess, Shares Title Track: Stream

Last year, Angel Olsen released the orchestral All Mirrors, which quickly became not only one of the best albums of 2019, but of the 2010s in general. While promoting the effort, she frequently mentioned that early versions of the songs were intended for a separate, much more raw release. Today, Olsen has finally announced that companion record, Whole New Mess, and it’s due out August 28th via Jagjaguwar. Nine of the 11 tracks on Whole New Mess will at least be partially familiar to All Mirrors listeners, only here they’re presented in their original, stripped-down form with slightly different titles. You’ll see “Lark Song” instead of the powerful “Lark”, “(Summer Song)” instead of simply “Summer”, and “Chance (Forever Love)” instead of “Chance”. These versions were recorded alon...

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Welcome Baby Girl

Congratulations are in order to Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas, who became parents on Monday. TMZ reports Turner gave birth to a baby girl named Willa. The 24-year-old Game of Thrones actress and her 30-year-old pop singer husband never publicly confirmed the pregnancy, even when it was announced via the press back in February. At the time, a source told Just Jared that “the couple is keeping things very hush hush but their friends and family are super excited for them.” For those who pay attention to these sort of things and we looking for harder evidence, the ever-nosy TMZ shared photographs of Turner with a very obvious baby bump. Willa is the first child for the couple, who began dating back in 2016. The two eventually got married in 2019 — first with a surprise c...

WarnerMedia Is Investigating the “Toxic Work Environment” at Ellen DeGeneres Show

WarnerMedia has launched an investigation into allegations of misconduct and an environment of fear on the set of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Via The Hollywood Reporter, the news comes 11 days after a Buzzfeed report in which ten former and one current employee described a “toxic work environment.” Rumors of verbal abuse, retribution, and racism have dogged Ellen for years. But the stories reported by Buzzfeed are still disquieting, involving little tolerance for family emergencies, inconsistently enforced rules, and attempts to silence workers who expressed concerns. One woman took medical leave after a suicide attempt, and when she returned, her position was eliminated. A Black woman who objected to the term “spirit animal” was labeled “the PC police,” and later re...

Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Jim Carrey Team Up for Intimate, Socially-Distant Standup Show

A few lucky people in Ohio got quite the treat when comedy legends Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Jim Carrey (or at least, his face) appeared for a special standup performance. It happened as part of the ongoing summer series “Dave Chappelle & Friends: A Talk with Punchlines”. The outdoor events are invite-only, socially distanced, and limited to about 100 people. The privacy of the shows has been part of their charm, and little has leaked in the way of photos or clips. It was Rock who broke the embargo, sharing two pictures from the secretive event on Instagram earlier today. One shows him dapping elbows with Chappelle in front of a plane. The other catches Carrey’s wide smile on FaceTime, as Chappelle holds a mic up to the cellphone. According to Rock, “Jim closed the show.” He said...
