Jon Stewart’s Movie Irresistible Getting Digital Release This Summer

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a complete reshuffling of movie releases, what with theaters across the country shuttered. If there’s a bright side in all this, it’s that certain films are getting delivered directly to consumers much earlier than planned via paid video on-demand. The latest feature to receive the streaming push is Irresistible, the political comedy written and directed by the great Jon Stewart. Originally scheduled to debut in theaters on May 29th, Focus Features has announced that the film will now see PVOD release on June 26th. Priced at the standard $19.99 for a 48-hour rental period, Irresistible will be available on most major on-demand platforms, including Amazon, Apple, Comcast, DirecTV, Fandango, Google/YouTube, Charter/Spectrum, Verizon, Microsoft, Dish, Vud...

100 gecs Throw a Backyard Rave on New “stupid horse” Remix: Stream

Earlier this month saw 100 gecs member Dylan Brady contribute extensively to how i’m feeling now, the quarantine album from Charli XCX. Now, 100 gecs proper are back with new material of their own: a remix of “stupid horse” featuring UK pop singer GFOTY and producer Count Baldor. Compared to the original version found on last year’s acclaimed 1000 gecs debut, today’s rework capitalizes further on the duo’s manic, off-the-wall brand of experimental, futurist pop. Guitar parts have been swapped out for shredder-like synths and the whole thing feels like a Blink-182 and Sleigh Bells mashup on the verge of implosion. Check out the remix below via an official video directed and edited by Weston Allen. As to be expected from 100 gecs’ Brady and Laura Les, it’s a bonkers watch filled wi...

Faith No More’s Roddy Bottum Debuts Single “Daddy” from His Man on Man Project: Stream

Faith No More keyboardist/guitarist Roddy Bottum and his boyfriend, Joey Holman, have launched a new project called Man on Man, and they’ve just debuted their first single, “Daddy’”. Bottum and Holman describe the project as “gay lovers making gay music” on their Instagram page, and appear in tighty-whities in both the promotional photos and the music video for “Daddy”. Bottum told Rolling Stone, “There’s enough representation in the gay community of young, hairless pretty men. It feels good to represent a faction of our culture that isn’t squeaky and manicured.” He added, “Based on the ageist and homophobic responses posted in the comments section of a straight publication that ran our photo, I’m happy to be those faces on the queer map.” As for the song itself, the music leans more...

Coriky is Ian MacKaye’s new band with his Fugazi bassist Joe Lally, as well as MacKaye’s spouse and co-founder of The Evens, Amy Farina. Together, the group has shared the new single “Too Many Husbands”. They’ve also announced an altered release plan for their self-titled debut album, which now drops on streaming services on June 12th. All three of MacKaye, Lally, and Farina are singers. But while the trio harmonized on lead single “Clean Kill”, the new cut “Too Many Husbands” is a showcase for Farina’s expressive vocals. She overflows with attitude: sneering, blustering, and crackling with wit. Her performance is complemented by staccato bursts of guitar punctuated with furious walls of noise. Check out Coriky’s “Too Many Husbands” below. When the rockers first revealed the record back in...

Adult Swim Revives Tuca & Bertie for Season 2

Tuca & Bertie officially have their wings back. Season 2 of the animated anthropomorphic sitcom has been revived by Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Created by Lisa Hanawalt, a producer and illustrator on BoJack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie enjoyed just one season on Netflix before being canceled July 2019. The pulling of the plug came as a shock, as the TV series earned rave reviews right from the get-go. At the time, Hanawalt blamed the cancellation on Netflix’s reliance on algorithm data. “T&B is critically acclaimed and has repeatedly been called one of the best new shows of the year,” she said. “None of this makes a difference to an algorithm, but it’s important to me and the way I want to continue making art in this world.” Adult Swim, the proud home of Rick and Morty, ...

Israelis Stage Music Festival in Protest of Country’s COVID-19 Lockdown

Live music returned to Israel on Thursday, as over 3,000 people gathered in a park in Tel Aviv for an event called “Behind the Scenes: an Assembly of Solidarity”. Though technically billed as a protest, and not a concert, the event featured a dozen prominent Israeli artists performing on a large stage. Much like in America, Israel has been on a COVID-19 lockdown since mid-March, which has effectively shuttered the entertainment industry. Yesterday’s event served as a protest to encourage the government to reopen live events, according to Billboard. In order to stage such a large-scale mass gathering, organizers of the event exploited a loophole in Israel’s health regulations allowing for contained protests. Upon entering the park, attendees were asked to wear a face mask and keep six feet ...

Billy Idol Joins Jimmy Fallon and The Roots for “Dancing With Myself” in Quarantine: Watch

When it comes to tunes that capture the vibe of social distancing, Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself” is one that immediately comes to mind. On Thursday night’s Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots performed the song with “at-home instruments,” and got the man himself to join them. While in isolation, Fallon and the members of The Roots have been tackling a number of songs with makeshift instruments from their respective homes, in the vein of their regular “Classroom Instruments” sessions. The “Dancing With Myself” performance started out with just Fallon and The Roots on the first verse and chorus, before Idol joined in for the rest of the song. Among the unique at-home instruments, The Roots’ Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter banged a spatula against a blender, while Questlove used a foo...

Migos Team with YoungBoy Never Broke Again on “Need It”: Stream

The trap gods of Migos have teamed with YoungBoy Never Broke Again on their new single “Need It”. The track is all about money — but as the title implies, it’s not about merely wanting cash, it’s about doing anything and everything to get it. The structure involves pairs of rappers trading bars, with most of the song given over to a lyrical tennis match between YoungBoy and Offset. “I said I need it!” YoungBoy sneers, and Offset hits the ball back in his court with, “This Draco undefeated!” With those two on the first verse and chorus, Quavo and Takeoff are relegated to the second verse. That means every part of the song benefits from a high-energy tenor and a smooth-talking baritone, and that tried-and-true formula sure sounds easy on the ear. Listen to “Need It” below. The collab is anot...
