RM Sotheby’s is auctioning an ultra-rare 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO during its annual Monterey sale
The vehicle is the 99th of 272 total examples produced and features under 1,000 miles on the odometer

Ferrari’s legendary 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO is heading to the auction block via RM Sotheby’s for its annual Monterey sale. The pristine example represents the marque’s inaugural halo supercar and is expected to command a gavel price between $9 million and $11 million USD.
Designed by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti, the 288 GTO stands as the 99th of 272 units built between 1984 and 1987. The vehicle features a Kevlar hood and molded fiberglass body panels finished exclusively in Ferrari’s classic Rosso Corsa hue. Inside, the two-seat interior is wrapped floor-to-ceiling in Nero leather and equipped with optional factory features including air conditioning and power windows.
Under the rear deck sits a matching-numbers 2.9-liter V-8 engine equipped with IHI twin-turbochargers, delivering 389 horsepower and 366 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. Redlining at 7,700 rpm, the supercar was designed to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in five seconds toward a top speed of 179 mph. Showing just 958 miles on the odometer, the Ferrari Classiche-certified model remains one of six or fewer sub-1,000-mile 288 GTOs believed to exist globally.
The 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO will cross the block at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale running from August 13 to August 15, 2026.
