This past weekend (October 30, 2022), Fox aired The Simpsons‘ Season 34, Episode 6 “Treehouse of Horror XXXIII” Halloween special. Highly anticipated after a first look, the “Death Tome” second segment of the episode reimagined The Simpsons as a Death Note parody anime. It is interesting to note that the anime-style rendering was provided by the South Korean studio DR Movie, the actual animators behind Death Note. The Simpsons recently offered a new clip from the “Treehouse of Horror XXXIII” special offering a look at how Lisa uses the Death Tome to take push her environmental activism efforts. Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey has received a theatrical release date. According to reports, Fathom Events will be releasing the slasher horror film in hundreds of theaters in the United States for a one-day event on February 15, 2023. Blood and Honey will also be screened in the United Kingdom by Altitude, in Mexico by Cinemex and in Canada by Cineplex; other territories are also working on theatrical releases. Frake-Waterfield’s film is a grisly take on the A.A. Milne character, whose original book entered the public domain in January 2022. HBO‘s highly-anticipated adaptation of the award-winning 2013 video game The Last of Us will likely premiere on Sunday, January 15, according to the series’ HBO Max page. Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has been tapped to star in Josh Krasinski’s A Quiet Place: Day One. Currently, Nyong’o is in final negotiations with Paramount Studios regarding her role in the upcoming film, according to Deadline. The A Quiet Place franchise made its debut in 2018 with its first film grossing $341 million USD. The franchise continued with its 2020 sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, which earned about $297.4 million USD. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is lending his talents to Marvel as the actor is now set to star in Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man, according to Variety.  The forthcoming Disney+ series has been adapted from the Wonder Man comic book series. This will not be the first time the Emmy-wining actor has taken on a comic-book superhero role as he previously played Dr. Manhattan in HBO’s Watchmen series and as Black Manta in the 2018 Aquaman film. Cristin Milioti has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming HBO Max series The Penguin (working title), a spinoff of Matt Reeves‘ Robert Pattinson-starring film The Batman. The actress is set to portray the character of Sofia Falcone, the daughter of mob boss Carmine Falcone who was played by John Turturro in Reeves’ film. Deadline reports that Sofia goes head-to-head with Colin Farrell‘s Penguin as they fight to gain control of Gotham. Reeves will serve as executive producer for The Penguin alongside Dylan Clark, Farrell, Craig Zobel — who is also directing the first two episodes — Daniel Pipski and Rafi Croh. Peacock has announced a Friday the 13th expanded prequel series, Crystal Lake. The upcoming show comes from A24 and writer, showrunner and executive producer Bryan Fuller, with A24, Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller and Rob Barsamian also serving as executive producers.
