Warner Bros. has pulled six of its movies from HBO Max in what appears to be an attempt to cut spending, Variety reported. The films were all advertised as “Max Originals,” meaning that they were exclusively streaming on the service. Among the films were the Seth Rogen-fronted comedy An American Pickle and a 2020 remake of The Witches, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci and Chris Rock. After axing Batgirl for HBO Max, Warner Bros. Discovery on Wednesday announced that Todd Phillips‘ Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, will premiere in theaters on October 4, 2024. The release date is exactly five years following the first film’s debut, according to Deadline. The movie, which sees the return of Joaquin Phoenix in the role of the Joker, will reportedly begin production in December of this year. After extending its multi-year partnership with Netflix, Dark Horse Entertainment has announced a new David Leitch-directed spy thriller film, titled Bang!, starring Idris Elba. Leitch, whose previous work includes Bullet Train and Deadpool 2, will helm the pic based on the comic series by Matt Kindt and Wilfredo Torres. The feature film, written by Kindt and Zak Olkewicz, will follow a terrorist group that attempts to birth the apocalypse with a brainwashing series of novels. According to reports, the upcoming show will be similar to Everybody Hates Chris as it takes inspiration from the comedian’s teenage years. Rock will serve as executive producer and returns as the narrator, while Sanjay Shah will serve as showrunner and wrote the pilot script for the series. Kenan Thompson is open to the idea of ending Saturday Night Live when creator Lorne Michaels leaves — which could be after the show’s 50th season in 2024-2025.
