In my job, spending hours scrolling through images of the most fashionable people comes with the territory. From Instagram posts to fashion week street style, I’m somewhat of an expert in what’s trending – after all, it’s what I do. This extensive research has allowed me to identify patterns, that eventually become trends, and right now, there are some brands that the fashion set just can’t get enough of. And as always, I’m here to share them with you. Understandably, the big fashion houses crop up over and over again, but what really excites me are the brand that don’t have decades of heritage and established identity to bolster their popularity. For the new season, it’s clear that there are a few brands that have broken...
& Other Stories has been an influencer favourite for quite some time. These days, it’s never a surprise when I scroll through Instagram and tap a photo only to learn the brand has been tagged, yet again, by someone whose style I admire. The beloved brand is responsible for creating elevated pieces you know will stand the test of time, from classic tailored pieces to easy accessories and pretty midi dresses to cosy knitwear. This month in particular, we’ve seen quite a few trending & Other Stories pieces on the feeds of some incredibly chic individuals, proving once again that Insta-worthy style can be completely attainable. From our very own Maxine Eggenberger‘s dream autumn blazer to the perfect jeans for petite&n...
This, the nostalgia and deep roots of the brand made it seem almost unreal when it was announced it was going into administration. Of course, this was a move every fashion editor had seen coming for a while, but the followthrough of seeing a Great British fashion institution close its doors was a sad day for the high street. But, a ray of hope: Topshop had been acquired by ASOS, another shopping stalwart. Perhaps the magic of Topshop would be reimagined into a new digital concept. It’s been a moment, but that time is now.Topshop has officially relaunched, and after a few edits that didn’t quite live up to its former glory, that Topshop magic has been recaptured, and just in time for it to make a positive impact on our autumn wardrobes. It’s clear to me that the design tea...
Certain moments live eternally within the fashion lexicon, and they continually serve as a reference point to everyone after them. One of those being when Madonna wore the infamous conical Jean Paul Gaultier bra she wore during her Blonde Ambition tour. Needless to say, designers have long adopted intimates as something more than pieces to slip underneath our clothes. Fast forward 30 years after the iconic bra, and lingerie is still as ever a part of ready-to-wear’s DNA (for evidence, a revived Jean Paul Gaultier has recently rereleased the cone bra). Looking at the most recent autumn collections—which are also now hitting retailers—sparkly bras, transparent skirts, and corsets litter its offerings. Some might even say risqué trends are at...
“Many brands break down their product offering into different categories, and H&M is no different,” explains Who What Wear affiliate editor, Emily Dawes. “At H&M, you have Studio, often in collaboration with another designer, which is a capsule edit of more premium pieces. Then, there’s the mainline H&M collection, which, if you look at the garment itself, has a beige label. Finally, there’s Divided, its category aimed at a younger demographic. With lower price points, I tend to avoid Divided pieces, as I find them to be of lesser quality than the other categories. This is something you only discover after a long time spent shopping at the brand.” You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we reimagined wha...
I have a reputation for being obsessed with looking after my clothes. Everything has the right hanger, box or covering. Some items are best folded up in a drawer with a more than substantial amount of moth repellent; important shoes are kept in their original boxes; and I separate my tights from my neatly matched, rolled-up socks. I like to make things last, and enjoy fussing over my precious items, new and old. One thing I still don’t really know how to look after, though, is cashmere. How does one wash cashmere at home? Is that a fashion crime? Should your cashmere sweaters go in the freezer or something? Are there especially evil moths that will just come for my cosiest knits at a certain time of the year? How long can I wear a cashmere sweater for and expect it to last or look passable...
Welcome to The Great Try-On. With autumn well and truly in the air, we seized the opportunity to try on some of the best new-in pieces from some of your favourite brands, documenting the process along the way. We believe that the best way to shop online is to see an item IRL and to read candid reviews, so we hope that this leads you to your most successful purchases of the year. I’ve never had a hard time admitting when I’m wrong. In fact, I believe that owning up to your mistakes is one of the most important things you can do. And I’ve made a mistake I’d like to own up to and set right: I’ve been overlooking Whistles for far, far too long. But before we get into that, let’s begin with the reason we’re here. One of the biggest perks of my job is getting to try on the latest collection...
H&M has been a high street go-to for me for many, many years, and it’s been interesting to see how they’ve developed as a brand over this time. H&M’s aesthetic has gradually gravitated towards a more simplistic approach, focusing more on minimal, elevated basics, dominant in neutral colour palettes. Although H&M isn’t my first stop when I’m looking for one-of...
The time has finally come for our wardrobes to make the official shift from summer to autumn, and we couldn’t be more ready for it. However, when embarking on anything new, it can often feel like you’re starting entirely from scratch—though we’re willing to bet this probably isn’t the case with your clothing. You’ve likely already honed a pretty impressive lineup of autumnal fashion staples, the sort you have come to rely on whenever the weather turns. If you’ve bought wisely, some of these pieces will have been in your capsule for years now. This is always our intent when we buy anything new. Still, we understand that wearing the same tops and trousers as you did last year (and potentially years past) mightn’t be the most exciting prospect. So if ...
Even on my worst days, there’s nothing a good outfit can’t fix. Creating a look that oozes confidence empowers me to take on the day in a new way (even if I’m faking it). When I think of the brands that inspire the most confidence, Versace immediately comes to mind. This season, its offerings range from the signature Medusa corset to those already iconic platform heels, but the newest line of bags and accessories is really where it’s at. The Greca Goddess collection beautifully combines Versace’s sleek leather with its classic hardware—you know, that iconic gold insignia you’d recognize anywhere? In the words of Donatella herself, “When I touch the strong, cold metal of the Greca, it makes me feel my strength and confidence.” She’s...
If you were to consult my MATCHESFASHION.COM, Net-a-Porter or Instagram most-visited pages, they would instantly tell you that one of my favourite brands is The Frankie Shop. I’m a longtime stan of its XL tailoring, cotton boxer shorts and conceptual outerwear, and its pieces make me feel grown up, polished and chic yet give that effortlessness so it appears I’m not trying despite the fact I’m almost always trying very, very hard. This season, its autumn collection is the same as always: a series of elevated staples in a mainly neutral palette with the occasional surprise cut or colour (think Bottega Green and the brightest of bright pinks). A few of its sell-out trophy pieces from last season are back and better than ever, as well as some coordin...
I don’t want to sound like a fashion cliché, but I think I’ve fallen in love with a jumper. To be fair, the pullover in question has all the attributes I’m looking for: It’s striped, loose-fitting and, crucially, looks way more expensive than it is. The piece I’m referring to comes from Arket and costs £69. The brand has reissued this jumper after similar versions sold out last year, and I (along with the rest of the Who What Wear team) have been waiting for this new drop ever since. It’s not really surprising that we’re all falling over ourselves for this high-street item considering it is very similar to the incredibly expensive Celine version, so this feels like a real bargain. This time, there are three versi...
