This may come as shocking news to some, but Bill Murray has signed on to star in Wes Anderson’s next film. No, I’m not referring to The French Dispatch, Anderson’s upcoming film also starring Murray that’s set to hit theaters in October, but rather the one after that. Per Variety, Anderson is scheduled to begin production on his next film in Spain starting in August, and Murray will be on set alongside Tilda Swinton (who also has a role in The French Dispatch). So far, Anderson is keeping the plot of his next film close to his twill vest, but Swinton has hinted that the film “is not about Spain” even though it’s being filmed there. For Murray, this will mark his tenth collaboration with Anderson, having previously appeared in Rushmore, The Royal Tenebaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zisso...
Proving once again that archeology is the most handsome science, Antonio Banderas has signed onto Indiana Jones 5 (via Deadline). The 60-year-old actor joins a stacked cast that includes Indy himself Harrison Ford, as well as Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelson. James Mangold takes over the directing chair from Steven Spielberg, while John Williams returns as composer. The production has faced the occasional setback, as when Ford injured his shoulder. But even so, the movie’s expected to swing its way into theaters on July 29th, 2022. There’s no word yet on whether Banderas will be friend or foe. But here’s hoping he gets some good writing for a change. His last two movies were the poorly received Dolittle and The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. Adver...
Tomorrow, fans of the late great Anthony Bourdain can get a deeper look at his unabashedly adventurous life with the documentary Roadrunner. But not all of the Bourdain quotes were actually spoken by the chef and writer during his lifetime. To help Roadrunner along, filmmaker Morgan Neville used AI learning technology to deepfake Bourdain’s voice for three separate quotes. All the AI quotes do come from Bourdain. But they might’ve been written instead of spoken, or the original audio wasn’t quite up to snuff. The deepfaked voice was discovered by the New Yorker’s Helen Rosner, who asked Neville how he got a soundbite of Bourdain reading an email he’d sent a friend. Turns out, it was AI all along. “There were three quotes there I wanted his voice for that there were no recordings of,” Nevil...
In news that Tony Scott would have loved and Quentin Tarantino might hate, the movie they made together, 1993’s True Romance, is set to receive a 4K digital restoration. Via NME, the new version will be available on Blu-ray on July 19th. Starring Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette, True Romance follows an Elvis fanatic and a call girl after they fall in love, get married, and accidentally steal a fortune’s worth of cocaine. Scott directed from a script by Tarantino, and while it was regarded as a box office disappointment at the time, it has gone on to acquire a devoted following. The 4K restoration includes both the theatrical and director’s cut of the film, alongside commentary from Tarantino and Scott, as well as Slater and Arquette. Those discs come packaged with a d...
Rosé unveiled her take on Paramore’s “The Only Exception” while appearing on the South Korean variety show Sea of Hope. Seated on the ground outside a Korean food stall, the BLACKPINK singer strummed an acoustic guitar while accompanied by another guitarist and a keyboard player. “When I was younger I saw my daddy cry/ And curse at the wind/ He broke his own heart and I watched/ As he tried to reassemble it/ And my momma swore that she would/ Never let herself forget/ And that was the day that I promised/ I’d never sing of love if it does not exist,” she sang. The laidback performance follows Rosé’s earlier cover of John Mayer’s 2006 classic “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” from the same program late last month. Ever since Disney purchased 20th Century Fox back in 2019, fans have been waiting for Deadpool to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve long known that such a multiverse merger was in the works, but we never would have expected it to happen like this. The Merc with a Mouth has officially had his first MCU crossover in an appropriately meta preview of Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi’s new film Free Guy. See, Reynolds portrays Deadpool in that character’s film series, and Waititi directed Thor: Ragnarok and starred in both that film and Avengers: Endgame as the alien rock creature Korg. Now in Free Guy, Reynolds plays a video game background character who realizes he’s a digital creation, and Waititi plays the movie’s villain, the publisher behind the game. Free ...
Wheel of Time, the most popular fantasy series of the past 30 years not named Game of Thrones, is heading for the silver screen. As Deadline reports, Zack Stent (Thor, X-Men: First Class) will pen the first film in a planned trilogy. Robert Jordan’s enormous Wheel of Time saga boasts nearly 3,000 named characters and spans 15 books, with the last three completed by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan’s death in 2007. That’s a lot of source material to draw from, and so it’s interesting to note that Stentz’s film series plans to do without most of it — the better to avoid competing with Amazon’s upcoming TV adaptation. Instead, the cinematic trilogy will be set in the Age of Legends, which was already several millennia old by the time the series launched with the first book, ...

WandaVision director Matt Shakman will helm a new Star Trek film written by Captain Marvel scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer. J.J. Abrams, who is credited with successfully rebooting Star Trek for the silver screen with 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, remains on board as a producer. Next month, Halsey will release her highly anticipated new album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. As it turns out the pop star has also been working on a coinciding feature film of the same name to accompany the record. She just released a gothic trailer for it, which you can watch below. Similarly dubbed If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, the film is written by Halsey and directed by Colin Tilley, her frequent collaborator who helmed the music videos for “Without Me” and “You Should Be Sad.” The movie is billed as “an hour-long film experience set to the music of her upcoming album” and, based on this new clip, looks rather brooding and intense. The film trailer opens on a number of knights trotting on horses, torches in hand, towards an eerie castle while text takes over the screen. ...

Following its premiere at Cannes on Monday, Fox Searchlight has shared the first clip from Wes Anderson’s new film The French Dispatch. Taking place in a fictional French town in the 20th century, The French Dispatch centers on a foreign outpost of an American newspaper — the Evening Sun. The action brings to life the stories from the paper’s final issue, as well as the drama around the editorial staff of The French Dispatch. Making up that staff and its surrounding characters is perhaps the most talented ensemble assembled on film in recent history: Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Jeffrey Wright, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Léa Seydoux, Timothée Chalamet, Lyna Khoudri, Stephen Park, and&n...
