Morgan Wallen Repeats as Top Country Artist in 2022: The Year in Charts

Just as the 29-year-old singer-songwriter did in 2021, Sneedville, Tenn. native Morgan Wallen reigns as Billboard’s Top Country Artist of 2022. Concurrently, he finishes first as top country male artist. Billboard’s year-end music recaps represent aggregated metrics for each artist, title, label and music contributor on the weekly charts dated Nov. 20, 2021 through Nov. 12, 2022. The rankings for Luminate-based recaps reflect equivalent album units, airplay, sales or streaming during the weeks that the titles appeared on a respective chart during the tracking year. Any activity registered before or after a title’s chart run isn’t considered in these rankings. That methodology details, and the November-November time period, account for some of the difference between these lists and the cale...

Diplo Apologizes for Playing Song Featuring Morgan Wallen During Super Bowl Afterparty

After facing scrutiny last weekend for playing a track featuring Morgan Wallen during a Super Bowl afterparty, Diplo has apologized.  Following the conclusion of Super Bowl LV, Diplo caused a stir by dropping his 2020 collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “Heartless,” during his performance. The song appeared on Diplo’s debut country album effort, Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil. However, the producer has since addressed it, stating he did not intend to make a political statement and that the song had been a part of his set prior to the country star’s controversy. Morgan Wallen was infamously cut from his record label earlier this month after video surfaced from TMZ of the country singer using racial slurs. Following the revelations, Jason Isbell,...

But for today, please don’t. I was wrong. It’s on me to take ownership for this. And I fully accept any penalties I’m facing.” Wallen said that he was on “Hour 72 of a 72-hour bender” and that he’s been sober for nine days (which is exactly how many days it’s been since the incident occurred). He continued to ...

Morgan Wallen Kicked Off This Week’s SNL After Violating COVID Protocols

Morgan Wallen was supposed to appear as the musical guest on this week’s edition of Saturday Night Live, but a TikTok video surfaced of the country singer partying without a mask at a University of Alabama football game last weekend. In an Instagram video that was recorded from his New York City hotel room, Wallen detailed how he was disinvited from this week’s show. “I got a call from the show letting me know that I will no longer be able to play and that’s because of COVID protocols, which I understand,” he said. Wallen went on to say he did not test positive for COVID, but “my actions from this past weekend were pretty short-sighted, and they’ve obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams.” He apologized for putting the show in jeopardy and said that he has “some growi...
