HEART Has ‘A Bunch Of Stuff Planned’ For 2023, Says ANN WILSON

In a new interview with Liz Barnes of Planet Rock‘s “My Planet Rocks”, HEART singer Ann Wilson was asked if there are any plans for the band to return to activity once she completes the touring cycle for her upcoming solo album, “Fierce Bliss”. She responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Oh, I think so, yeah. Because next year’s the 50-year [anniversary] of when we actually got together and got going. Nancy [Wilson, Ann‘s sister and HEART guitarist] didn’t join until ’75, but the band got going in ’73. So, yeah, we have a bunch of stuff planned for next year. So I can definitely see HEART doing something.” Ann‘s comments come a month after Nancy Wilson spoke to Joe Rock of Long Island, New York’s 1...

JUDAS PRIEST was rejoined by guitarist Glenn Tipton on stage during the band’s headlining concert Sunday night (March 20) at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in Cedar Park, Texas. Metal Blade Records founder and CEO Brian Slagel spoke to Canada’s The Metal Voice about the progress of the songwriting sessions for new studio albums from both KING DIAMOND and MERCYFUL FATE. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I had a really good conversation with [King Diamond, who fronts both KING DIAMOND and MERCYFUL FATE] the other day, and he’s working on both KING DIAMOND and MERCYFUL FATE. I might have heard a demo or two that sounded really, really good. “I don’t know when either of these records are gonna come out, ’cause King likes to do things at his own speed,” he explained. “It’s, like, ‘Hey, whatever works for you is totally fine with me.’ But I was very happy with what I’ve heard so far. So...

Portrait of Asian Elvis Impersonator Removed From Memphis Airport Due to Backlash

The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) has removed an Elvis Presley–inspired piece of artwork at the Memphis International Airport by artist Tommy Kha because of backlash from Elvis Presley fans. The Commercial Appeal reports the piece was installed in a newly reopened concourse in mid-February, but airport administrators removed it this week, citing unspecified negative commentary from fans. “After some disturbing complaints about my work, it was decided, and without my knowledge, the pictures were removed. I’m the only artist they have removed,” Kha wrote in an Instagram post on Monday (March 21).  In Kha’s photographic piece, an Asian man dressed in a jumpsuit that recalls Aloha From Hawaii–era Presley stands in a room filled with kitchen and office wares. Kha and the ...

Jon Spencer Says the Blues Explosion Is No More

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, the stalwart New York outfit that reimagined blues rock in the 1990s and inspired the subsequent garage-rock revival, is no more, Spencer revealed in a new interview for the Kreative Kontrol podcast. The trio of Spencer, guitarist Judah Bauer, and drummer Russell Simins went on hiatus in 2016 but no longer plans to regroup. Spencer cited Bauer’s health issues as the main factor in the split. Watch him discuss the band’s end below. The trio formed the Blues Explosion in 1991, following Spencer’s tenure fronting the deliberately offensive 1980s garage rockers Pussy Galore. Their 1994 album Orange mixed breakbeats and blues poetry with primal rock’n’roll riffs, subverting the self-reflective grunge orthodoxy of the time. They released a further eight albums ov...
