House Music Mainstays Moksi Unveil Explosive Sophomore Album, “Free Moksi”

Acclaimed house music duo Moksi have finally unveiled their first album in three years, Free Moksi. One of Barong Family’s most celebrated names, the Dutch powerhouse tandem have taken the world of dance music by storm since 2015 with their vibrant and bass-heavy sound, while collaborating with the likes of Yellow Claw, DJ Snake Hardwell and many more. Free Moksi harkens back to the U.K.-influenced, forward-thinking sound design heard in the duo’s earlier works, but laces it with an array of new ideas, exciting collabs and contemporary sonics. The simplistic yet chaotic “After the After” (with Dread MC) does a great job at introducing listeners to the immersive world of Free Moksi, which only gets more intense with tracks like “Shout Like” (with LexBlaze) and “Keeping It Real” (...

SXSW Review: Hulu’s The Girl From Plainville Is an Introspective Drama Uninterested in Excuses

The Pitch: Series co-creators Liz Hannah and Patrick Macmanus keep the true-crime story wave going with The Girl From Plainville, an eight-part limited series based on the “texting suicide case.” In 2014, Conrad Roy III died by suicide in Mattapoisett, Massachussets — this tragedy eventually garnered national attention as investigators learned of the role that the teen’s girlfriend, Michelle Carter, played in his death. Roy’s and Carter’s motivations were previously explored in Erin Lee Carr’s 2019 documentary, I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth v. Michelle Carter – and, of course, in all the preceding media coverage of the groundbreaking case. But The Girl From Plainville uses artistic license to venture deeper into the minds of these adolescents, and track how a chance meeting in Flor...

COREY TAYLOR: ‘I’m Never Doing Another Politics Book Ever Again’

During an appearance on the March 3 episode of Doug Bradley‘s “Down To Hell” show, SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor was asked if he has plans to write another book. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I kind of put a pause on the books about five years ago because [my last book, 2017’s ‘America 51’] almost killed me. It was such a gnarly, gnarly experience. But I’m actually getting the itch to do another one again. And not just another one but, like, another fun [book].” Taylor went on to elaborate on why writing “America 51” was so unenjoyable for him. “That was very political,” he said. “And I won’t bore anybody with my partisan crap, but it was just the lamentations of somebody who co...

We Are The Apocalypse – DARK FUNERAL

RATING: 8.5/10 Black metal has undergone so many transformations and mutations over the last few decades that it is sometimes easy to overlook the simple thrill of bands like DARK FUNERAL. Always popular but never quite as critically lauded as some of their less direct contemporaries, the Swedes deal in big, brash and bombastic extremity that is never afraid to exert maximum heavy metal power. Consequently, nobody is going to be particularly surprised by “We Are The Apocalypse”, at least in terms of its creators’ overall approach. But DARK FUNERAL are so ridiculously good at this stuff — and Lord Ahriman is such an underrated but eerily consistent songwriter — that the fact that these songs are simply bigger and better interpretations of the same grimly brutal formula fee...
