Drakeo the Ruler’s son has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Live Nation—the organizer of the music festival where the Los Angeles rapper was fatally stabbed during a backstage altercation at Once Upon a Time in L.A. Caiden Caldwell, who is 5 years old, filed the suit through his mother Tianna Purtue. In addition to Live Nation, the lawsuit names C3 Presents, Bobby Dee Presents, Los Angeles Football Club (owners of Banc of California Stadium), and Jeff Shuman as defendants. The lawsuit alleges that Live Nation and the other defendants “were completely knowledgeable of the potential dangers posed to both their guests and the performers they hired based on numerous past incidents of violence and death at their hip hop events.” It specifically notes that the Astroworld tragedy occurred o...
One of Atlanta’s best nightclubs is back in full swing—and with a stellar lineup of DJs in tow. Domaine opened up in late 2019 to much acclaim, quickly becoming entrenched in the city’s nightlife fabric thanks to its luxe experience and state-of-the-art production. After a multimillion dollar renovation, the 26,000-square foot venue was a force to be reckoned with. However, like virtually every entertainment venue on the planet, Domaine shuttered in 2020 thanks to the wrath of the pandemic. But it’s not a Covid casualty. With their sights set on dominating the Atlanta clubbing scene in 2022, organizers took the broken eggs and are now making quite the omelette. They’ve now joined forces with a number of renowned DJs, who are set to grace Domaine’s stages in th...
From the DJ booth to 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Alesso has made his Saturday Night Live debut. Joined by Katy Perry, the Swedish dance music superstar appeared on the legendary sketch show to perform his latest single “When I’m Gone,” which has been climbing the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart. It was Perry’s fourth time performing on Saturday Night Live. The performance was a showcase of Perry’s colorful brand, featuring psychedelic visuals and dancers dressed in mushroom costumes that resembled—ahem—genitalia. The electro-pop track hit streaming platforms back in late December ahead of an official music video, which dropped in early 2022. The video made its worldwide premiere on ESPN during halftime of the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship. Recommen...
Flume has revealed the title of his long-awaited third studio album, Palaces. Alongside the announcement comes the release of a cinematic music video for the record’s lead single “Say Nothing,” a haunting electronic track featuring vocals from Australian compatriot MAY-A. The release date of Palaces, Flume’s first album since 2016’s critically acclaimed Skin, has not yet been announced. The virtuosic dance music producer has sporadically teased the project since late 2019, when he told Billboard he was “on a mission” to finish it after releasing March’s Hi This Is Flume tape. He recently fanned the flames of Palaces by teasing a momentous collaboration with Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn. Watch the trippy “Say Nothing” music video...
Musical trends are cyclical. What’s old becomes new, and vice versa, in perpetuity. We’ve had a good run making techno music in the digital age, using computers to do the heavy lifting, but now it’s time to return to good old fashioned instruments and explore how they serve the purpose of producing electronic music. It might seem counterintuitive, but that’s precisely what Klangphonics sought to discover. The Berlin band produces techno music with a myriad of instruments and sounds that would otherwise be thought of as unconventional for the job, such as ukuleles, cats, pans, buckets, and even wine glasses. Recommended Articles Without the visual context, most listeners likely wouldn’t assume Klangphonics’ music was made outside of a computer...
Harley Streten has announced his first album as Flume since 2016’s Skin, and his first studio set since 2019’s Hi This Is Flume mixtape. Palaces drops May 20th, and as a preview, the electronic artist has shared lead single “Say Nothing” featuring MAY-A. Palaces was written in his native Australia, with a title that’s meant to evoke the natural wonders of coastal New South Wales. It comes with an impressive roster of guest artists including Damon Albarn, Caroline Polachek, Oklau, and more. On “Say Nothing,” Flume uses some unconventional drum sounds and a squishy bass thump to push the dance track outside the realm of typical club fare. “This song is about feelings of post relationship clarity,” he said in a statement. “We wrote the song midway ...
R Kelly has caught more than a case. As The Daily Beast reports, the disgraced singer contracted COVID-19 in a New York City jail. He is vaccinated, and so far there’s nothing to suggest that his symptoms are severe. Kelly’s lawyer Jennifer Bonjean gave her client’s health update in court, asking a judge for more time as they try to overturn his sex trafficking conviction. “It is vitally important that Mr. Kelly meaningfully participate in his post-trial defense,” she said, noting that because of his COVID-19 diagnosis, she wouldn’t be able to speak with Kelly until the day the motions are due. Bonjean recently represented Bill Cosby during his successful appeal, after which he was released due to a procedural technicality. She’s helping Kelly as he faces up to life in prison. He...

Marilyn Manson has confirmed that he is once again collaborating with Kanye West, this time on the rapper’s upcoming album, Donda 2, which is expected to be released later this month. The embattled shock rocker previously appeared on Ye’s 2021 album, Donda, guesting on the track “Jail pt 2.” Reports recently surfaced that Manson was back in the studio with West when producer Digital Nas told Rolling Stone, “Every day I go to the studio, Marilyn is in there working on Donda 2. [Kanye] doesn’t want Marilyn to play rap beats. He wants Marilyn to play what he makes, and then Ye will take parts of that and sample parts of that and use parts of that, like he did [when making the album] Yeezus.” Industrial musician and producer Tim Skold, who’s been a member of Manson’s eponymous band and KM...
