As part of METALLICA‘s 40th-anniversary celebrations, the band’s longtime photographer Ross Halfin was the subject of a 90-minute question-and-answer session with Steffan Chirazi, the editor of METALLICA‘s fan-club magazine So What!, on December 18, 2021 at Elk’s Lodge in San Francisco, California. Ostensibly to discuss Halfin‘s book documenting METALLICA‘s “Black” album era — “Metallica: The Black Album In Black & White” — the conversation also looked back over Halfin‘s career, focusing on his decades of work with the band. METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett dropped in for a chat too, and the audience chipped in with several questions of their own. Reflecting on one of METALLICA‘s early tours, Hammett said: “G...
Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (GUNS N’ ROSES), Michael Starr (STEEL PANTHER), Nita Strauss (ALICE COOPER) and Jason Hook (ex-FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH) are among the musicians who paid tribute to legendary VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen by performing a number of VAN HALEN classics with the all-star band THE STOWAWAYS on this year’s ShipRocked cruise, which set sail from Galveston, Texas on January 22 and included stops in Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico before returning on January 27. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below (courtesy of registered YouTube user Justin West). Last year, Thal discussed VAN HALEN‘s fourth LP, 1981’s “Fair Warning” ruring an appearance on the 100th episode of the “Infectious Groove” podcast...
In a new interview with Full Metal Jackie‘s nationally syndicated radio show, GHOST leader Tobias Forge was asked what the benefit is to being the primary songwriter in the band. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “The good thing about that is since I don’t play one role in a band where there’s, like, five other egos, it’s easier for me to [go], ‘No, no, no. We can skip the solo here. I can move this solo around. Wait a minute — I can take this little bass part. I can do this little guitar part on the piano instead or the organ.’ Try saying that to a guitar player. If it’s his piece, if it’s his little thing, his moment to shine, that’s gonna cause problems whereas when you’re doing it my way… At least from m...
Fan-filmed video footage of Geoff Tate‘s January 26 performance at Stage West in State College, Pennsylvania can be seen below (courtesy of YouTube user “Jim Powers“). Tate‘s current tour is celebrating the 30th anniversary of QUEENSRŸCHE‘s “Empire” and “Rage For Order” albums. 1986’s “Rage For Order” introduced a much more polished look and sound for QUEENSRŸCHE. The album featured keyboards as prominently as guitars, and the group adopted an image more closely associated with glam rock or glam metal than with heavy metal (of which glam metal was a subgenre). A video was filmed for the song “Gonna Get Close to You”, originally recorded in 1984 by DALBELLO. Released in 1990, “Empire” included th...
In the spirit of PinkPantheress‘ to hell with it remix EP, Flume throws caution to the wind, trying his hand once again at drum & bass music. Perhaps after seeing the reception of 2020’s single “The Difference” (with Toro y Moi), Flume was inspired to dig deeper into his affinity for energizing drum & bass. PinkPantheress’ original “Noticed I cried” had laid the potential groundwork for a feverishly rhythmic remix, and leave it to Flume to deliver in spades. Flume pins a dizzying PinkPantheress vocal loop at the center of the track, creating a trippy atmosphere. He plays up these psychedelic aspects as the track progresses with frenetic vocal pitch bends and distortion. As the vocals gradually swirl into the background, space is made f...

Breakbeat Kaos, one of the industry’s most beloved record labels for drum & bass music, has relaunched at the direction of DJ Fresh. In the early 2010s, Fresh achieved world recognition for hit tracks like “Gold Dust” and then—alongside Rita Ora—became the world’s first artist to top the U.K. charts with a drum & bass single, according to UKF. He did the same with 2011’s timeless dubstep song “Louder.” As his career boomed, releases on Breakbeat Kaos began to wind down. By that point, however, the imprint had already released a slew of early career singles from future household names like NERO and Chase & Status. They also released Hold Your Colour, the debut album from legendary drum & bass group Pendulum. Recommended Articles None...
