Meshuggah Unleash “The Abysmal Eye” as First Single from New Album Immutable: Stream

Meshuggah have offered up “The Abysmal Eye,” the lead single from their forthcoming album Immutable. “The Abysmal Eye” is a robust crusher and one of the strongest metal songs we’ve heard in 2022 thus far. Indulging the Swedish band’s extreme prog tendencies, the track melds dynamic grooves and technical riffs into a hypnotizing haze of sinister dissonance. Consider us thoroughly satiated. Meshuggah teased us with a snippet of audio when they initially announced the April 1st release date for Immutable, leaving fans clamoring for new music. Their first new song in nearly six years, “The Abysmal Eye” was clearly worth the wait — the fruits of an album cycle that almost didn’t happen. Sean Penn: “Cowardly Genes” Have Made Men “Feminized”

Sean Penn seems to never stop talking, and if you accidentally find yourself agreeing with one thing he said, you need only wait for the next dollop of unasked-for wisdom to drop like a turd from his mouth. In a new interview with The Independent, Penn decided to launch an unprovoked attack on the trans community, bizarrely claiming that “cowardly genes” have left modern men “feminized.” Penn was promoting his latest flick, Flag Day, alongside his co-star and real-life daughter, Dylan. “I think that men have, in my view, become quite feminized,” he said. “I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression toward them. There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt...

Drakeo the Ruler’s Family Filing $20 Million Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Live Nation

The family of late rapper Drakeo the Ruler (born Darrell Caldwell) announced on Thursday (January 27th) they are filing a $20 million wrongful death lawsuit against Live Nation and other organizers of the Once Upon a Time in L.A. festival, where he was fatally stabbed backstage in December. The case will be filed next week. In a press conference, the family’s attorney James Bryant played a video that surfaced online of the backstage melee that led to Drakeo’s death. “Mr. Caldwell was essentially lynched by over 40 to 60 people, and as you also saw, Mr. Caldwell had no security,” Bryant said. “That video ran for a full minute and you didn’t see one security officer there. The video you saw was one of the last few moments of Darrell Caldwell’s life.” Bryant also cited Astroworld, Travis Scot...

Stellar Stream Obscured – SARCASM

RATING: 8.5/10 Veterans of the Swedish death metal underground, SARCASM first formed in 1990, split in 1994 and re-emerged in 2015 with a revamped sound and Hell’s flames blazing in their eyes. Three albums later and it seems likely that “Stellar Stream Obscured” is exactly the record the band would have dreamt about making back in the day: epic, grotesque and steeped in the grand, grim traditions of MORBID ANGEL, DISSECTION and POSSESSED, it’s also a ferociously contemporary piece of work. “Through The Crystal Portal” may be the most unhinged album opener in recent memory. Spikily melodic, but relentlessly violent and willfully angular and obtuse, it’s the kind of sonically punishing old-school riot that keeps the arcane metal flame burning throug...

PAPA ROACH Releases Music Video For New Single ‘Stand Up’

California rockers PAPA ROACH have released the official music video for their anthemic new single, “Stand Up”. Produced by Jason Evigan (Dua Lipa, G-Eazy, MAROON 5), the song brings massive energy and unique arrangements to singer Jacoby Shaddix‘s uplifting and motivating lyrics. The track seeks to provide a signature, bouncing anthem for a world that is energized to stand up against injustice, complacency, and opposition, further exercising their agency towards the obstacles in this new year. “‘Stand Up’ is inspired by the social unrest of marginalized people throughout the world. It’s about feeling of wanting to give up when you’re backed against the wall. For the ones that have been oppressed for so long that a sense of hopelessness is al...

JASON NEWSTED Says He’s Been ‘Really, Really Frugal’ With His METALLICA Earnings: ‘That’s Why I Still Have Them’

In a recent interview with the METALLICA fan-club magazine So What!, the band’s former bassist Jason Newsted was asked how he dealt with the huge commercial success of METALLICA‘s 1991 self-titled album — better known as the “Black Album” — when it first happened. He said: “All of us experienced some kind of swelly head at different levels for different amounts of time through this three-year span. [It was] inevitable and impossible for it not to happen… I remember me personally, when I went shopping with [METALLICA guitarist] Kirk [Hammett] in Paris, and he took to me a couple of nice, nice stores, and I threw down a lot of money for some nice clothes and shoes and stuff. I’d never done that before. And I thought I was the shit… So I did get caught in t...
