This particular recording was done in Agadez in 2017 at a wedding. Mdou and I had played three weddings a day for about a month and a half on that trip. It was like bootcamp. I loved it. ‘Ibitlan’ is one of Mdou’s oldest songs and is covered by p...

R&B’s Bryson Tiller has returned with an official visual for last month’s “Outside.” The new video matches the single’s energy by juxtaposing light and dark imagery to cultivate a layered, vibe-heavy feel. The self-described track samples The Ying Yang Twins’ 2005 hit “Wait (The Whisper Song)” and seems to mark a new musical epoch for the Louisville artist. After opening with a yin-yang symbol, the visual cuts between solo shots of Tiller and scenes of him joined by a crew of backup dancers. The Ying Yang Twins, Kaine and D-Roc, also make a guest appearance in a few scenes. “He been calling your phone, but you don’t call back / Let him know it’s his fault and he need to fall back,” Tiller sings in one verse. As Tiller’s first release in two years, following his third studio album Anniv...

The four-track EP is exactly what the doctor ordered if you’re looking for some new fresh bass anthems. Word To The Mother combines heavier, dubstep-inspired selections with tasteful tinctures of laid-back, jazzy lo-fi beats. The EP’s titular track, “Word To The Mother,” starts off with just that: a jazzy chillwave beat that slowly surges into a heavy-hitting bass drop. “Wack,” on the other hand, infuses lo-fi and ’90s nostalgia with a clever sample of Kris Kross’ “Jump.” “Manifest” throws in trippy vocal samples before the EP’s closer, “Patience,” transcends listeners through ethereal soundscapes before floods of ...
