Coolio Found Dead at Age 59
Coolio, the rapper best known for his chart-topping single “Gangsta’s Paradise,” has died at the age of 59, according to TMZ. Citing the rapper’s longtime manager, TMZ reports that Coolio died from cardiac arrest on Wednesday. At the time of his death, he was at a friend’s house, his manager said. After the rapper went to the bathroom and never returned, his body was found laying on the floor. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Released in 1995, the Stevie Wonder-sampling, L.V.-featuring “Gangsta’s Paradise” was an ominous yet infectious document of gangster life, a darker offering from a man with a pretty lighthearted persona (if his iconic hair wasn’t proof enough, Coolio’s earlier output had built him a reputation for bringing a humorous perspective to his tales of violence). ...

The rapper’s longtime manager Jarez confirmed the news to TMZ, stating that Coolio was found on the bathroom floor of his friend’s house on the afternoon of September 28. He excused himself to go to the bathroom and after not returning for a while, his friend called out to him but received no response. He eventually managed to enter the bathroom where he found Coolio, and paramedics pronounced the artist dead when they were called to the Los Angeles house at 4 p.m. Sources for law enforcement add that no drugs or related paraphernalia were found in the house and that police have reportedly opened an investigation into Coolio’s death. Beloved Scottish DJ, dance music producer and Ibiza regular Jamie Roy tragically passed away last week, but his music continues to live on. In the wake of his death, Roy’s friends, label mates and fans launched a campaign to push his track, “Organ Belta,” up the Beatport charts. The song, which was released through Patrick Topping‘s Trick label in September 2021, ultimately topped the site’s House charts. R. Kelly to Pay $309,000 in Restitution to Victims in New York Federal Case
R. Kelly is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence after being found guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking in a New York federal court last year. The disgraced R&B singer has now been ordered to pay at least $309,068.18 in restitution to the victims of his sex trafficking, according to Courthouse News Service reporter Nina Pullano. Kelly also owes $140,000 in fines and assessments, according to Pullano. As of now, $300,668.18 will go to a survivor of Kelly identified as Jane; the other $8,400 will go to a woman identified as Stephanie.
