HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Egregiously tacky Brooklyn Pastor Bishop Lamor Whitehead is again making headlines, and it’s nothing the good lord would be proud about. Featuring heavy-hitting headlining sets from Arctic Monkeys, Lorde, and Nine Inch Nails, the weekend proved to be a successful American translation of the iconic festival. The band just recently released their sixth studio album, Physical Thrills, produced by the legendary Butch Vig of Garbage (who were highlighted on July’s episode of The Story Behind the Song). The LP is marked by an adventurous — and intentional — departure of sorts, a tone brilliantly set by the lead single, “Scared Together.” Advertisement Related Video But the path to this latest record starts back in 2006 with the band’s first studio album, Carnavas, and its breakout track “La...
Almost all of the major British networks — and even some X-rated channels — paused their regularly scheduled programming on Monday, September 19th to air Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, but one exception was Channel 5, which offered a rather unique form of counterprogramming with The Emoji Movie. Since the day of the funeral is a national holiday, it made sense to offer kid-friendly programming, but opting for The Emoji Movie rather than something like the charming Paddington 2 was a puzzling decision. After all, the Queen had tea with Paddington himself in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee in 2021. Released in 2017, The Emoji Movie features the voice acting of T.J. Miller, James Corden, and Patrick Stewart. At one point, the film had a 0% Rotten Tomatoes rating and it subse...
On Saturday night, Travis Scott headed to Zouk Nightclub in Las Vegas for the first performance of his Road to Utopia residency. The seven-night residency, which is only one part of a “multi-year partnership” between Scott and Zouk, will see the rapper perform six shows non-consecutively between September 17 and October 15. Taking its name from Scott’s long-awaited fourth studio album, Utopia, the residency kicked off with a slew of songs from the unreleased project. Fans at the concert were able to hear snippets of new material featuring Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Kid Cudi and Pharrell. The collaborating artists weren’t there in person, rather, Scott streamed the songs live with the help of his DJ. Utopia will follow Scott’s breakout LP, 2018’s Astroworld. Following the show at Zouk, Scott con...

As Matsson shared in statement: This past year, I’ve spent a lot of time touring but also writing and recording an album that I’m wildly proud of and will see the light of day eventually. But in the small hours in between t...
The Armenian music festival Urvakan has postponed its 2022 edition after clashes broke out on the country’s border with Azerbaijan. Nicolás Jaar, Mulatu Astatke, Habibi Funk, and Aya had been among the slated performers for the event in the town of Dilijan. “The escalation of conflict on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan came as a shock to us,” the festival wrote in a statement. “Despite the fact that the sides have come to a ceasefire agreement, it is very hard to predict how this will continue to develop.” The statement continued, “This year we tried hard to relaunch Urvakan considering new realities that our region and the world are facing. While we were developing the festival some of its topics became even more real, and now we observe aggressive actions of authoritarian leade...
Mariah Carey says she has unearthed the original version of her mythic 1995 alt-rock album—a version, believed lost, that features her own lead vocals. In a podcast interview with Rolling Stone’s Brian Hiatt, Carey hinted that she intends to release her version of Someone’s Ugly Daughter, and that she was also planning a related project, or perhaps an update of the album, with another artist. Asked how her search was going for the buried version of Someone’s Ugly Daughter, Carey told Hiatt, “We actually have it.” The unearthed version, she said, “will become something we should hear, but also, I’m working on a version where there will be another artist working with me…. Possibly something built around the album.” Back in 1995, Someone’s Ugly Daughter was eventually released overlaid ...
