The first leaves in Chicago are beginning to turn, which means it’s the perfect weather to listen to the Windy City’s own Tasha. The singer/songwriter has announced her new album Tell Me What You Miss the Most, out November 5th, and shared the lead single “Perfect Wife.” The follow-up to 2018’s Alone at Last was produced by Tasha alongside Eric Littman. As she tells it, the new album shows significant artistic growth. “When I made Alone at Last, I had only been writing songs for two years. I hardly even knew what kind of song writer I was,” she said in a statement. “But this record feels much stronger as far as a representation of my songwriter and musicianship. I did feel like I was piloting it in a way that I haven’t really felt before.” You can hear some of that...
Maxo Kream has announced Weight of the World, his upcoming album due out in October via Big Persona/88 Classic/RCA Records. As a preview, the Houston rapper has teamed with Tyler, the Creator for an anthemic new single titled “Big Persona.” Watch the video below. The new full-length will detail the ups and downs of processing the trauma of his loss. Stay tuned for an exact release date. Produced by Tyler himself, “Big Persona” features bombastic horns and booming percussion worthy of its name. After a verse and chorus in which Tyler talks about his “big money, big cars,...
Toward the end of last year, Phoebe Bridgers started her own record label called Saddest Factory Records, and this past spring signed the Los Angeles synthpop trio MUNA. Today, MUNA have shared their first single since joining the label, “Silk Chiffon,” featuring a verse from Bridgers herself. If “Silk Chiffon” is meant to reintroduce MUNA to old fans and new listeners alike, then it goes above and beyond in summarizing what makes the group so much fun. It’s an unabashedly pop number with airy guitars and a vocal melody that will get stuck in your head all week. According to Naomi McPherson, the band’s guitarist and producer, “Silk Chiffon” was written in hopes of being “a song for kids to have their first gay kiss to.” “Silk Chiffon” arrives with a vibrant music video in tow. Directed by ...
Like a goofy-footed DeLorean, Tony Hawk’s skateboard can travel backwards in time. As proof, look no further than the new video of the legendary skater singing (!?) a cover of Millencolin’s “No Cigar,” which will transport you to the year 2000, when your back never hurt, the art world yawned at the election between Bush and Gore, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 had just hit the shelves. If you were fortunate enough to play the original run of Pro Skater games, then you’ll remember the soundtracks, which did as much to advance the art of video games as any graphical upgrade. For this new cover of “No Cigar,” Hawk was joined on guitary by Mikey Hawdon of Fairmounts, as well as Millencolin’s Nikola Sarcevic on bass, pro skater Steve Caballero on a guitar shaped like a sk...
Shield your eyes and gird your loins, Drake is pelvic thrusting in your direction in the new music video for “Way 2 Sexy” featuring Future and Young Thug. The first official single from his just-released album Certified Lover Boy samples Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy,” playing off the original’s self-conscious humor and adding some chest-baring braggadocio for good measure. The video for “Way 2 Sexy” is a double shot of ridiculousness, as Drake and director Dave Meyers explore so many different expressions of horniness that you’ll never want to have sex again. The visuals begin amongst the skin-tight spandex of an ’80s workout video, and it only gets goofier from there. Drake gets animated alongside a melanated take on Jessica Rabbit, swashbuckles on the cover of a romanc...
The Weeknd’s 2015 video for “Can’t Feel My Face” is a solo masterpiece, and so it’s interesting to learn of an unreleased alternative visual that cedes the spotlight to someone else. According to a press release, this latest video for “Can’t Feel My Face” was actually the first that Abel Tesfaye shot, but it was binned due to a “shift in creative direction.” It puts an emphasis on the “She,” of the line, “She told me don’t worry,” offering a steamier, more literal interpretation of the song. His female co-star shines as a party fiend riding the high of her life. She nails a couple of different looks: the bathroom mirror, just after; the dance floor thirstiness, when she should really grab a drink of water but there’s someone else she’d like to slurp; the vacant drift; and the near-bottomle...

After a month-long tease, Charli XCX has kicked off her latest era with “Good Ones.” Watch the accompanying music video below. “Good Ones” marks Charli’s first new material since How I’m Feeling Now, one of the best albums of 2020. Leaving behind the vulnerable aesthetic of the pandemic release, Charli has taken on the persona of “an ultra pop star” for her upcoming project. “It feels like Charli ultra pop star, all-out, sell your soul kind of version of myself. I feel like I have unlocked this kind of ultimate top-tier level of myself and it is fun to get to know her a bit as well,” explained Charli in a recent interview with Evening Standard. “The previous lockdown album was very much the opposite, it was very DIY. I made it with my fans very quickly. I kind of wanted to g...
Injury Reserve are releasing their highly-anticipated sophomore album, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, in just a couple of weeks. The alt hip-hop group has already shared the record’s lead single, “Knees,” and today, they’re following it up with “Superman That” and an accompanying music video. “Superman That” sees Injury Reserve moving in an experimental direction, fueled by crunchy beats and a nearly-indistinguishable time signature. To top it off, Ritchie with a T’s melodic vocals are doused in Auto-Tune, making the track feel almost otherworldly. Its video, directed by Injury Reserve producer Parker Corey, is full of equally disorienting visuals. Check out the “Superman That” clip below. By the Time I Get to Phoenix, the follow-up to Injury Reserve’s 2019 self-titled debut, is due ou...
Rosalía has joined forces with rising Dominican dembow artist Tokischa for a collaborative single called “Linda.” They’ve also shared a steamy music video for the track. While Rosalía is one of the biggest names in Latin music, Tokischa is one of the most controversial. Still, the latter’s rebellious, authentic nature and unique blend of trap and dancehall sounds has drawn plenty of positive attention in the music world. Speaking in a recent interview for an outlet in the Dominican Republic (via a press release), Rosalía said of her collaborator, “Tokischa is an irreverent woman, a woman who speaks frankly and isn’t afraid to make people uncomfortable. Tokischa is a woman who is going to make a big impact just based on the message that she gives and what she represents. She is a woman who ...
The legend Johnny Marr has announced Fever Dreams Pts 1-4, a double album that will be released as four separate EPs. Fever Dreams Pt 1 arrives October 15th, and as a preview the former The Smiths guitarist has shared the new song “Spirit, Power and Soul.” Fever Dreams Pt 1 is a four-track effort, and the new single doesn’t just open the EP, it also sets the mood for the three EPs to follow. As Marr said in a statement, “‘Spirit, Power and Soul’ is a kind of mission statement. I had an idea about an electro sound with gospel feeling, in my own words… an electro soul anthem.” “Spirit, Power and Soul” rolls along like a high-speed train, powered by heartbeat drums and chugging electric guitars. “Now, time has come,” Marr sings. “Spirit, power, and soul/ And...
Baby Keem has linked up with his cousin Kendrick Lamar for a new collaborative single called “Family Ties.” It comes with a music video starring the rapping relatives alongside former Fifth Harmony member Normani. Earlier this week, Baby Keem teased the track by revealing the “Family Ties” cover art on social media. The image is an old photo with 11 family members standing around, arms thrown around one another in an embrace. Everyone’s faces are blacked out except for two people: a very young Lamar and an even younger Keem. Seeing the two rappers grinning while surrounded by their loved ones is pretty charming, even if the rest of their crew has their eyes obscured in an ode to the classic good kid, m.A.A.d city album artwork. “Family Ties” is produced by Cardo and features some gnarly be...
