TOBi Is “Off the Drugs” in New Song with Mick Jenkins: Stream

Born in Nigeria and raised in Canada, TOBi is a rapper on the rise. He’s now teamed with Mick Jenkins for a new meditation on intoxication, “Off the Drugs.” This is not a confessional track or an ode to sobriety, and in fact, the woozy guitars and giddy horns ensure that “Off the Drugs” would sound great while high as a kite. The song opens with one of our favorite legal potions, as TOBi raps, “Caught me slippin’, I was sippin’ bourbon/ Unfamiliar feelings, it’s that liquid courage.” Throughout the song, he also gets buzzed off the bag, ripped off romance, and just plain stoned. “When off the drugs,” he sings, “Show me some love/ On a good trip and I hope it never end/ High as a ceiling fan and I got the spins.” For his part, Jenkins rolls through and rolls up, spinning together ...

BLACKPINK’s Rosé Delivers Acoustic Cover of Paramore’s “The Only Exception”: Watch

Rosé unveiled her take on Paramore’s “The Only Exception” while appearing on the South Korean variety show Sea of Hope. Seated on the ground outside a Korean food stall, the BLACKPINK singer strummed an acoustic guitar while accompanied by another guitarist and a keyboard player. “When I was younger I saw my daddy cry/ And curse at the wind/ He broke his own heart and I watched/ As he tried to reassemble it/ And my momma swore that she would/ Never let herself forget/ And that was the day that I promised/ I’d never sing of love if it does not exist,” she sang. The laidback performance follows Rosé’s earlier cover of John Mayer’s 2006 classic “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” from the same program late last month. King Woman Share New Song “Boghz” Ahead of Upcoming Album: Stream

King Woman have shared “Boghz,” the final single from their upcoming third album, Celestial Blues, out July 30th. The mysterious track touts soft-loud buildups that create an unsettling vibe. Whispering wind and muted guitar notes give way to crushing chords in the chorus, as singer Kris Esfandiari belts out in terror. King Woman take the classic Sabbathian doom template and sharpen it to an edge. “It’s a tragic story about one ancient soul split in two separate bodies,” Esfandiari explained via a press release. “Only knowing a sick and twisted version of love, one half nearly destroys the other. It’s about being at the mercy of a sadistic person who you have an undeniable psychic bond with.” Advertisement Related Video Such darkly cerebral themes can also be found in previous singles “Mor...

James Murphy Confirms LCD Soundsystem Is on a “Full Hiatus”

James Murphy, we love you, but you’re bringing us down. It’s been almost four years since LCD Soundsystem released new material, and it doesn’t seem like any more is in store for the time being. On a recent appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, Murphy confirmed that LCD Soundsystem had no plans to return to the stage or studio. Maron, an admittedly new LCD fan, interviewed Murphy about his early days cutting his teeth in New York’s DIY scene, what it means to make “original” music, and more. “We’re not rehearsing,” Murphy told Maron when asked about post-pandemic shows. “We’ll figure something out when the time is right. Right now, we’re on a full hiatus. Because of the nature of the band, when we’re not touring, we’re just, like, back to normal life completely…Everyone does other s...

Ed Sheeran Mulls Recording a Death Metal Album, Loves Slipknot and Cradle of Filth

Pop star Ed Sheeran going metal sounds like a late-night comedy skit — in fact that was an actual sketch a few years back on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. But this time, the British pop star isn’t playing around, as he now reports that he “would not be opposed to creating” a death metal album. That’s right, Sheeran, whose chart-topping hits like “The Shape of You” and “Perfect” are anything but metal, is a big fan of crushing riffs and guttural growls. The singer-songwriter was quoted in The Sun over the weekend as saying, “I was really into death metal as a kid. I listened to Cradle of Filth and Slipknot and all that stuff.” Advertisement Related Video In fact, Sheeran is considering dipping his toes in some extreme music. “I’m not saying I could ever step into that world,” he a...
