While the United States struggles to accelerate vaccinations in order to beat back relentless COVID-19 surges in states like Michigan and New York, New Zealand is out here safely having 400-seat theater concerts — not to mention the tens of thousands who’ve packed in to see Kiwi acts like Benee and Six60 over the past few months. On March 31, as part of NZ singer-songwriter Marlon Williams‘s run of shows at the Hollywood Avalon in Auckland, he welcomed a very special guest to the stage to help him out with a cover: none other than Lorde, making her first public performance since 2019. As fan-captured footage uploaded to social media reveals, Lorde and Williams sat together on a piano bench dueting on Bruce Springsteen’s “Tougher Than the Rest,” the second trac...
Last month, composer Danny Elfman shared his latest solo song, “Kick Me”. Now, the 67-year-old musician has teamed up with Death Grips drummer and producer Zach Hill for a new remix. Hill’s version transforms the alternative rock sound of the original with a swirling cacophony of percussion and synths. It’s a complete reimagining of the track which will satisfy fans of Death Grips’ and Elfman’s previous singles alike. “I was a big fan of Death Grips and Zach Hill’s work, and so appreciative to have him jump in with his creative energy,” Elfman said in a press release. “Kick Me” arrived in March on the heels of January’s “Sorry” and February’s “Love in the Time of COVID”, following through on Elfman’s promise to release a new song every month this year. Outside of his solo music, Elfma...
Dropkick Murphys have offered another taste of their new album, Turn Up That Dial, ahead of its April 30th release. The punk-rock veterans have unveiled the new song “Queen of Suffolk County”. The new track follows the single “Middle Finger”, which arrived with the album’s announcement in late February. “Queen of Suffolk County” opens with the voice of a newscaster announcing the arrest of a Suffolk County woman who was arrested for a stabbing outside a bar. The song then proceeds to tell the story of the knife-wielding femme fatale, with lines like, “You best stay out of her way/ She don’t joke, and she don’t play.” The Massachusetts-based Celtic punkers recently performed a St. Patrick’s Day livestream that garnered more than 1 million views, landing at No. 1 on Pollstar’s livestream cha...

After Lil Nas X dropped his new single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” on Friday, fans were quick to note the visual similarities between it and the music video for FKA Twigs’ 2019 hit “Cellophane”. Both clips feature the artists sliding down a lengthy stripper pole while putting on a difficult routine — by the same choreographer, no less — leaving viewers to question if it was plagiarism or tribute. So Twigs called the rapper on Tuesday to privately discuss the matter once and for all. Ultimately, they’re on good terms, with her even thanking him for “acknowledging the inspiration” of her track. “Thank you @lilnasx for our gentle honest conversations and for acknowledging the inspiration cellophane gave you and your creative team in creating your iconic video!” wrote FKA Twigs. “I t...
