As winter comes knocking, so too does our desire to start paying our nails some more attention. While the summer months have us booking in for gel manicures every few weeks to ensure our manis and pedis stay fresh, come autumn, we like to give our nails a little bit of a break. But as we start gearing up for Christmas, you better believe we’re ready to jump back on the manicure train. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been busy saving down all of the winter nail inspiration we can’t wait to try over the coming months. However, with parties already starting to get booked into our diaries, we’re anticipating finding ourselves out of time this festive season. And while we’re big lovers of nail art, we also appreciate that it can be a time-consuming trend. ...
Autumn is in full swing, and we’re really embracing it this year. There’s a crisp autumn chill in the air that has us reaching for wooly knits, but it’s not rainy enough to have to don a waterproof jacket just yet. And this kind of perfect autumn weather means we can actually embrace all of the trends we’re desperate to try—both in fashion and in beauty—without risk of being rain-sodden or too windswept. And while we’ve already pinpointed the top autumn trends of the season, it’s time to dig into the details. First stop: nails. And more specifically, the nine autumn nail trends we’re seeing everywhere right now and can’t get enough of. Sure, we can get a pretty good steer on cool nail mic...

No, this isn’t particularly ground-breaking news, but just know that polished neutrals aren’t going anywhere next year. “Fresh neutrals are timeless,” says OPI brand ambassador Georgia Rae. “Clean cuticles, nourished skin and a thin layer of a sheer nude to complement your skin tone will remain a trend in 2022,” she adds. And the best bit is, according to Rae, this trend really does work for anybody and everybody—even those who don’t like polish. “I even think short, neat nails worn bare are so chic,” she says. The Pearlescent Illuminating Serum isn’t quite what I was expecting. It’s marketed as a hydrating serum, but I’d liken it more to an illuminating primer. With vitamin B and hydrating beta-glucan, it can be used on its own, but as a skincare aficionado, I’d recommend it as a post-skincare routine add-on. The results, however, are stunning. The finish isn’t dewy (hence I’d recommend a hydrating product underneath), but rather smoothing and blurring. The encapsulated synthetic mica pearls deliver a subtle glow and very minor shimmer that had people complimenting my makeup-less skin all day. And finally, we come to The Pleasing Pen. And honestly, I’m a little miffed. The pen is dual-ended, housing an eye serum on one end and a lip oil on the other, dispensed through matching ste...
Apparently, I have really good nail beds. Nail technicians tell me this. It’s when the shape of your fingernail is long and a wide enough canvas to paint on a long stroke of nail polish. As someone who’s hated her hands her whole life, I take it as a compliment and wear it proudly by always having my nails professionally done in a plethora of colours. I’ve pretty much tried it all—gel extensions, SNS powder and acrylics—in a bid to show off my nail beds. And because of this, my nails have been through it. After my last spell of gels, my natural nails took a beating. I opted for an IBX treatment, which is essentially like Olaplex for your nails, helping to strengthen them over time. “Professional IBX treatments have become very popular,” says nail artist Michel...

While it’s technically still autumn, in typical UK style, it feels as though we’re done with our two-week-long season of crisp air and crunchy leaves. In fact, it feels like we’ve fast-forwarded straight to winter. Yep, with darkness looming at 4 p.m. and temperatures dropping into single figures, it’s safe to say we’re gearing up for winter already. And if we’re quite honest, winter isn’t the season for us. Sure, when it comes to fashion, colder months can seem enticing (what is there not to like about cashmere knits and chic coats?), but winter has a wicked way of messing with our beauty routines. From turning that summer-skin glow red and irritated to drying and breaking our sun-kissed strands, winter knows how...
While nail art has always been a thing, it’s undeniable that the reopening of nail salons earlier this year recaptured our imagination when it came to experimenting with our manicures. Basic nail colours were pushed aside in favour of vibrant blues, cute pastels and glitter while a penchant for prints (I’m talking everything from cow to colourful French tips) gave way to a summer of covetable nail micro-trends. And as for the nail trends that will be seeing us through the autumn and winter months? Well, there’s one, in particular, that’s dominating my Saved folder on Instagram right now: retro ’70s prints. Yes, I’m talking psychedelic swirls, clashing colour palettes, flower prints and pops of brown. When it comes to nails, there is no doubt that the ...
There’s no right or wrong way to achieve the candy corn nail art look. Candy corn manicures can suit any Halloween costume or occasion for the fall season. Adding small details can bring the manicure design to the next level. Every year, Halloween presents the perfect opportunity to explore and create with the utmost creativity. For beauty connoisseurs, this can range from spooky-inspired makeup, colorful contacts paired with scary yet chic costumes, and even festive tattoos for the thrilling holiday. There are so many aspects to consider, especially when there’s a ton of inspiration to choose from. Whether you want to wing it with a DIY costume, gain inspiration through pop culture references, or go all-out using wigs, incorporating these small details goes a long way. Manicur...
Whether you’re an autumn person or not, I think we can all agree that any new season is an exciting time to mix things up when it comes to things like your wardrobe and beauty routine. And I’m not saying you have to get completely new clothes and swap out all your makeup products for new ones—the cool thing about seasonal transitions is that tiny changes can make an impact, too. That might mean buying a few new items of clothing or accessories to mix in with your tried-and-true basics. Or trying out a new lipstick, eye shadow look, or even a new nail polish color. The latter is one of my favourite ways to change things up because it’s pretty low-lift in terms of effort and it can be a subtle change. Opting for an autumn-inspired nail colosr instead of your usual at the sa...
In case you hadn’t noticed, nails are in right now. In fact, the events of the past 18 months have had us expressing our creativity through nail designs in hundreds of different ways. Whether it’s via a nude, polished finish to make us feel pulled together, an array of rainbow brights to inject some joy into our day or something a little more artistic to serve as a creative outlet, we’re all turning to our nails as a way to make ourselves feel great. This is theory is most applicable come autumn. As the days get shorter and the weather gets increasingly dark and dreary, finding the little ways to lift our spirits and make us feel good about ourselves should be prioritised. And so, autumn nail trends are, if you ask us, amongst the most...
