Chubby and the Gang Announce New Album The Mutt’s Nuts, Share “Coming Up Tough”: Stream

Chubby and the Gang have announced their new album, The Mutt’s Nuts, due out on August 27th via Partisan Records. The London punk five-piece also shared the LP’s lead single, “Coming Up Tough”. Produced by Jonah Falco of Fucked Up, The Mutt’s Nuts features lyrics rooted in UK political issues that include worker’s rights, inequality, police brutality, government failure, and gentrification. The album’s sound mixes influences from artists like Hank Williams and The Bobby Fuller Four with Brooklyn-based ’50s girl groups and British blue-eyed soul. The blistering “Coming Up Tough” addresses government failure in modern London and the school-to-prison pipeline.  “You did some crime, you weren’t that wrong,” frontman Charlie Manning Walker (aka Chubby Charles) yells into the mic. “They sen...

Deftones’ Chino Moreno Joins HEALTH and Tyler Bates on New Song “Anti-Life”: Stream

HEALTH and composer-musician Tyler Bates have shared the new collaborative song “Anti-Life” featuring Deftones singer Chino Moreno. The track is the latest single from the forthcoming Dark Nights: Death Metal Soundtrack from DC Comics and Loma Vista Recordings. The electro-industrial intensity of HEALTH combined with the cinematic sheen of Bates’ production makes “Anti-Life” an aural powerhouse. The sheer sound and fidelity is jaw-dropping. Topping it off are pristine vocals by Moreno, whose singing always works well in an electro/experimental context. Like the previous singles we’ve heard from the soundtrack — including Mastodon’s “Forged by Neron” and Chelsea Wolfe’s “Diana”, “Anti-Life” is inspired by the storyline of DC’s Dark Nights: Death Metal comic series. In the third issue o...

Yves Tumor Shares New Song “Jackie”, Announces 2021 US Tour

Yves Tumor has released the new song “Jackie”, along with a mind-bending music video. It’s the Florida-born, Italy-based artist’s first solo single since last year’s Heaven to a Tortured Mind, which we named one of the best albums of 2020. Yves Tumor has also announced the rescheduled dates for their “Yves Tumor and Its Band Tour” for 2021 and 2022, which was postponed due to the pandemic. “Jackie” is a haunting ode to a former flame, featuring heavy electric guitars atop a synth-pop riff. “These days have been tragic, I ain’t sleeping,” Yves Tumor sings in the chorus. “Refuse to eat a thing, I can’t tell you what happened.” The music video was directed and produced by Los Angeles creative studio Actual Objects. It’s similarly eerie, using AI to depict Yves Tumor as a devilish creature in ...

The Alex Lifeson Epiphone Les Paul Standard Axcess electric guitar is the culmination of an extensive collaboration between Lifeson and Epiphone’s parent company Gibson. The guitarist added his signature touches to the classic Les Paul design, improving on an already legendary guitar. “The introduction of the Epiphone Alex Lifeson Axcess model based on my Gibson Les Paul Axcess model has all the same attributes and characteristics that I desired so much when we originally designed it,” Lifeson said in a press release on ...

Gang of Youths are back with “The Angel of 8th Ave”, the Australian rock band’s first new song in four years. The heartland rock anthem finds Gang of Youths in their element, as they channel Bruce Springsteen and U2 on a track made to be heard in an arena. “I wanna lay me down and be lover of the year,” David Le’aupepe earnestly sings. “In this strange new town/ This strange hemisphere.” In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Le’aupepe described “The Angel of 8th Ave” as “kind of a lightning strike.” He added, “I think we wanted those things that had kind of inertia and energy and to have that sensibility. But I think there was kind of a part of us that wanted to still tip the cap to what we’d been for so long, but also gestured to the future and gestures to the sounds that we’re ob...

After dropping the lead single, “Midnight Wine”, last month, the Bay Area garage rockabilly quartet are today previewing the effort with the title track. “Year of the Spider” puts a ’70s doo-wop spin on some troubling experiences lead singer Shannon Shaw went through over the last two years. As Shaw tells Consequence, “‘Year of the Spider’ is essentially the summation of my 2019 and 2020. I was being stalked by a peeping tom for months and months all while my dad was going through radiat...

With pride month underway, art-pop musician Lido Pimienta is celebrating occasion by recording a cover of Bjork’s “Declare Independence” for the LGBTQ community. Stream her take on the classic 2007 single below. The Grammy-nominated artist laid down the track as part of Spotify’s Pride 2021: Claim Your Space campaign, which encourages the queer community to “make noise, make their presence known, and make their own rules.” Of course, “Declare Independence” is a boisterous rallying cry about seeking justice, and Pimienta felt compelled to cover the song in a way that nodded to queer people around the world in particular who are asking for equality. Angel Du$t Surprise Release Bigger House EP, Share Video for “Love Is the Greatest”: Stream

Angel Du$t have surprise released their new EP, Bigger House, the follow up to last year’s Lil House EP. They also unveiled the music video to the track “Love Is the Greatest Thing” and fall tour dates with Mannequin Pussy. The song’s title suggests a ballad, and sure enough, it’s Angel Du$t unplugged, for the most part, with lush acoustic guitars and singer Justice Tripp’s clean vocal delivery. It’s surprisingly tender from the band known for mosh-ready melodic hardcore, but also displays their versatility as musicians. The track features subtle turntablism from LA producer Shlohmo. The Bigger House EP was produced by Rob Schnapf, known for his work with Elliott Smith and Kurt Vile. Perhaps the producer unleashed Angel Du$t’s inner singer-songwriter, as the lead single implies. Japanese Breakfast Sings “Be Sweet” in Simlish for The Sims 4 Cottage Living: Stream

Michelle Zauner, aka Japanese Breakfast, has blessed fans with a new version of “Be Sweet” sung entirely in Simlish. The track was recorded for the new Sims 4 expansion pack titled Cottage Living, out July 22. The buoyant and summery “Be Sweet” is a perfect pairing for the gibberish language, even when the chorus is translated to “Ba shug da vlee nooboo/ Ya wana baleesh da voo ya wana baleesh” from the original “Be sweet to me, baby/ I wanna believe in you, I wanna believe.” “Be Sweet” appears on Japanese Breakfast’s recently released album, Jubilee, which arrived last Friday. As The Verge points out, The Sims 4 Cottage Living isn’t Zauner’s first foray into video games. She also composed the soundtrack for Sable, an upcoming Xbox and PC open-world game.
