Blanke is making 2021 his year. Since January, the EDM.com Class of 2021 artist has collaborated with the likes of Jason Ross and Luma, provided a remix for Liquid Stranger, and released a drum & bass heater in “Mystery.” Now, he returns alongside Dia Frampton for a new collaborative song called “Spark” out via Seven Lions’ Ophelia Records. Both Blanke and Frampton have a clearly defined musicality and “Spark” helps illuminate just that. The latter’s immaculate vocal performance conveys a unique type of intimacy, while the soaring synths and dynamic percussion that join her help bring that story to life. This collaboration feels incredibly natural, as their sounds are absolutely perfect for each other. Though Blanke&...
Over the past two years, Farrah has proven she can’t be ignored. The Hong Kong producer had a stellar 2020, playing numerous virtual festivals as well as released singles on Bassrush and Electric Hawk. This time around she’s tapped Israel-based artist Osins for their collaborative effort “Omen,” out via Jadū Dala. “Omen” encapsulates a haunting, ominous vibe while still fitting the festival-centric sound we’ve all been craving. From front to back, the tune exudes creativity. The jumpy, over-the-top feeling of the first drop translates well into the second, as the tune embraces windier synths and the same organic percussion. Though Farrah and Osins are relatively new to the scene, the budding talents have shown plenty of promise on this r...
With her new Into the Dark EP, Laura Greaves has thrust her flagpole into the EDM terrain as the first singer-songwriter to release a vocalist-led EP on Circus Records, the fabled electronic label founded by Flux Pavilion and Doctor P. A change of pace for the dubstep tastemaker, Into the Dark is a haunting slice of indietronica oozing with sultry sound design and eerie lyricism. Exploring themes of existentialism and inner demons, the record marries the grunge of Two Feet with the spellbinding vocal flair of Elohim. “I hope [Into the Dark] makes other people feel empowered and strong enough to face their own demons,” Greaves wrote in a celebratory Facebook post announcing the EP. Greaves kickstarts the EP with “Psychopath”—one of its surefire standou...
Migos seems like they’re finally ready to unveil their long-awaited Culture III. The trio released “Straigthenin,” the first song from what would be their first album since 2018’s Culture II. In the years since that release, Quavo, Offset and Takeoff have all released solo projects, leading folks to wonder if Culture III would be released. After all, the album was originally teased as far back as 2019. It looks like we have that answer that their fourth studio album is on the way. Listen to “Straightenin” below. [embedded content] Last year, Migos released singles “Need It,” “Taco Tuesday,” “Racks 2 Skinny” and “Give No Fxk,” which featured Young Thug and Travis Scott. Eptic is on a tear leading up to his highly anticipated festival run this summer. After releasing “Stop Pretending” in January and “Shadow People” in February, today he has returned to Monstercat for the third time this year with “Payback.” “Payback” is unlike anything fans have heard from Eptic recently, as the Belgian producer has doubled back to drum & bass for the first time in seven years. “With this song, I want to pay homage to the jump-up style that got me into producing,” he explained in a press statement. “I have more respect than I already had for dnb producers since it was so difficult to get it right. This was one of my most-requested unreleased songs so I felt like I owed it to my fans to give it my best sh...
In a collaboration virtually no one asked for that is sure to please only the handful of crossover fans, superstar Dutch DJ Martin Garrix teamed up with Bono and The Edge of U2 to create the official track for the 2020 edition of the UEFA European Football Championship. The track is titled “We Are the People,” as that was presumably the only thing they could find that their fans all had in common. The mashup pretty much only makes sense if the Union of European Football Associations was looking for the biggest possible names to feature on the promoted track for the massive soccer tournament, and we all know U2 has a long history of shoving their music into the hands, pockets, and ears of unsuspecting and unwilling listeners. Maybe they pulled names out of a hat for the collaborat...
Just three days after releasing his first official solo track since 2019, Skrillex is back with another release, a collab with Siiickbrain and Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee. The aptly titled “Too Bizarre” is a full-fledged pop song and even further of a departure from the bass-fueled Skrillex music of old. The arrangement here was made for radio, with Lee crooning over a number of guitar riffs and punk-inspired vocal harmonies. A jarring vocal at the halfway point courtesy of Siiickbrain brings the track into its final gallop before the last chorus takes it home, tying a bow on a catchy—and strange—new Skrillex release. As the road to Skrillex’s mythical sophomore album becomes more and more clear, it’s anyone’s guess where his sound is going moving forwa...
Crowded House has unveiled “Playing With Fire.” a sing-along pop/rock anthem ahead of their anticipated seventh album, Dreamers are Waiting, due June 4. “This song was formed out of a Crowded House jam, live in the studio but then evolved its character through many twists and turns during quarantine in 2020. ‘Playing With Fire’ carries within it the contradiction I often feel on joyous occasions, the presence of hope together with an impending sense of doom,” frontman Neil Finn says in the band’s press materials. The single is accompanied by a music video directed by Simon Mark-Brown. Until a minute and 5o seconds in, the video mimics a live performance with some added elements that you likely wouldn’t see attending a Crowded House show. All but one of the band members is dressed in white ...

The Dark Nights: Death Metal Soundtrack, executive produced by Tyler Bates, sees Mastodon release “Forged By Neron” as the lead single off the collection. The soundtrack serves as a companion piece to the comics and graphic novels by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. Bates unites an array of artists across various genres—including Denzel Curry, Manchester Orchestra (who we just spoke with a few weeks ago), Chelsea Wolfe, IDLES and Soccer Mommy. The soundtrack will be released digitally by CD and Vista Loma Recordings on June 18 and physically on July 16. “We are super excited and honored to be part of the Dark Nights: Death Metal Soundtrack! We’ve all been fans of DC Comics and the Batman universe since we were kids, so it really means a lot for us to be able to add something t...
As we near the June 4 release of Soberish (via Chrysalis Records), Liz Phair has blessed fans with another new track from what appears to be her triumphant return. “In There” is the third track released from Soberish, meaning that patient listeners have now heard three of the first four tunes on the 13-song album. The track, chock full of Phair’s usual thoughtful wordplay and lyricism, is a more personal look at what Phair brings to the table in 2021 compared to the previous glimpses into the new album. Centered around the theme of “vulnerability,” Phair sounds just as ready to connect with her listeners now as she did nearly two decades ago with Exile in Guyville (1993) and Whip-Smart (1994). Check out the lyric video for “In There” below. [embedded con...
Raise your hand if you had Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello joining forces with ex-Styx singer Dennis DeYoung on your 2021 Bingo card. If you did, well, consider yourself the unlikeliest of winners. Though Morello may not agree with Adam Sandler’s Sonny Koufax in Big Daddy that Styx is the greatest American rock band, he definitely seems to be a fan. This afternoon, Morello shared that he guested on “The Last Guitar Hero,” a track from the forthcoming DeYoung solo effort titled 26 East, Vol. 2. Supposedly, this is DeYoung’s final foray into recorded music. So why (and a better question perhaps, how) did he get Morello to participate? Leave it to the man himself to explain. “When Dennis DeYoung (the singer of STYX) sheepishly approached me about playing a shredd...
