Ozzy Osbourne Slams Kanye West Over Unauthorized Sample

It is the year 2024, and even Ozzy Osbourne has had enough of Kanye West. In an all caps screed the OG rocker shared on social media, he chastised Ye for the unauthorized use of his classic cut “War Pigs,” with Black Sabbath, and wants no parts of the antisemite. Apparently, Ye did ask for […]

Sumerlands Soundtrack the Moody ‘80s Movie in Your Mind, and More New Metal

There’s a new Ozzy Osbourne album out this month. There’s also a new Striborg album out: two and a half hours of oppressively bleak — and, at its best, downright chilling — “blackwave” courtesy of the Tasmanian loner known as Sin Nanna. I state these facts to demonstrate a simple point: The universe of what we call metal is vast, and more or less impossible to keep tabs on in its entirety. Favor the festival headliners and arena fillers, and you miss the best of the club acts and fledgling bands sweating it out over that soon-to-be-legendary demo; scour the underground obsessively and you might overlook a late-career triumph from a household name. So if this new incarnation of SPIN’s monthly metal roundup — in which I take over from Andy O’Connor, an astute and passionate lifer whose recom...

Ozzy Osbourne, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Duran Duran Remember Queen Elizabeth II

On Thursday morning, Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle, her estate in Scotland. She had ruled for 70 years, the longest tenure in history. During her reign, she knighted a number of musicians, including Mick Jagger, Elton John, Paul McCartney. In response to the queen’s death, John wrote, “along with the rest of the nation, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s passing. “She was an inspiring presence to be around, and lead the country through some of our greatest, and darkest, moments with grace, decency and a genuine caring warmth. Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her dearly.” “I mourn with my country the passing of our greatest Queen,” Ozzy Osbourne wrote in a statement o...

The Osbournes to Chronicle Life in U.K. in BBC Reality Show

The Osbourne family will chronicle their return to life in their native United Kingdom in the new reality series Home to Roost, a 10-part series of 30-minute episodes produced by Expectation and set to air next year on BBC One. “The series will follow the Osbournes as they celebrate one of their most important years yet — with everything from Sharon’s 70th birthday to Kelly’s soon-to-be-born baby, Ozzy’s tour, and of course the big move itself,” reads a description from BBC. Ozzy and family left their estate in rural Buckinghamshire more than 20 years ago to settle in Los Angeles, giving rise to the beloved 2002-2005 MTV reality show The Osbournes. This time around, the show will offer a “genuine portrait” of the family as it navigates illness and aging — Ozzy is 73 and managing a 2019 dia...

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne Feature Film in the Works

The legendary tale of Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne’s relationship is making its way to the big screen as a feature film with Sony Pictures. Variety reported the untitled project will be set as a biopic-type production about the iconic hard rocker falling in love with his former manager and reality co-star wife, Sharon. “Our relationship at times was often wild, insane and dangerous but it was our undying love that kept us together,” Sharon Osbourne said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to partner with Sony Pictures and Polygram to bring our story to the screen.” What might be a serious, in-depth extension of the notorious reality hit The Osbournes, Oscar award nominee Lee Hall (behind Billy Elliot and Rocketman) is writing the project. Sharon Osbourne and her children, Aimée ...

The 100 Greatest Rock Stars Since That Was A Thing

Three of the 100 are in this picture! The Rolling Stones, in 1964, from left to right: Bill Wyman, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Brian Jones. The problem with lists like this is they are invariably bullshit. So our prime objective was to make sure we didn’t do a bullshit list. I’m not saying we did a scientific one either. Because that isn’t possible — actually, it is, if you wanted some compilation of who sold the most records/concert tickets/has the most fans/got the most death threats, etc., and someone could come up with a bunch of very empirical metrics and create a “heat index” or something, and could deliver an actual scientific ranking! But we, um, didn’t do that. In fact we didn’t even, technically, do the “we...

Ozzy Osbourne Unveils ‘It’s a Raid’ Animated Video With Post Malone

Ozzy Osbourne and Post Malone teaming up last year on Osbourne’s Ordinary Man was unexpected, but strangely enough, it worked. Now, an animated video for their “It’s a Raid” arrives almost a year to the day of the album’s release The story behind the song goes back decades. While Osbourne was recording Black Sabbath’s VOL. 4 LP in Los Angeles, Osbourne triggered the home’s security alarm and police surrounded the home, which he said in a 2020 SiriusXM interview, had “piles of marijuana and cocaine. “I’m shouting, ‘IT’S A FUCKIN’ RAIIIIID,’ before hiding the drugs and ingesting cocaine while hiding in one of the home’s bathrooms.” The clip relives that frenzy, with Osbourne and Post Malone at that house, before they lead police through the streets of the city and passing...
