Princess Nokia Drops NSFW Anthem “Boys Are from Mars”: Stream

This year is shaping up to be the year of Princess Nokia. Not long after inking her first major label deal with Arista, co-starring in Kacey Musgraves’ star-crossed film, and making a cameo in HBO’s Gossip Girl reboot, the singer returns today with her raunchy new single, “Boys Are from Mars,” featuring a guest verse from rising rapper Yung Baby Tate. Backed by a beat that feels indebted to 2000s R&B greats, the new track updates the elementary school riddle into an NSFW kiss-off to all the emotionally oblivious, mediocre-in-bed men you’ll inevitably encounter in life. “Can’t make me cum but think you’re a genius,” Princess Nokia sings in an ethereal harmony. “Boys are from Mars, girls are from Venus.” By the time Yung Baby Tate’s verse kicks in, “Boys Are from Mars” thr...

Rihanna on ‘Savage X Fenty Vol. 3′: ‘We Went Bigger, We Went Better’

Normani, Troye Sivan, Gigi Hadid, Vanessa Hudgens and Nas are among the models and performers in this year’s show. On Friday (Sept. 24), the third installment of Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty show debuts exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The prerecorded “fashion show,” which is more like an ensemble musical of choreographed modeling, special appearances and performances, was filmed at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles over the summer and is a continuation of the singer-turned-business mogul’s vision for an inclusive brand that celebrates diversity, body positivity, empowerment and the authenticity that blooms from standing in that power. The cast of models and performers in this year’s show includes both newcomers and notable names alike: Nas, Ricky Martin, Adriana Lima, Erykah...

‘Artists Are Here to Disturb the Peace’: Madonna and ‘Madame X’ Directors on the Doc’s Message

The concert film gives viewers a look at the Madame X Tour through the eyes of Madonna and her fearless persona, Madame X, a secret agent who travels around the world, fighting for freedom. Nuno Xico, one of the documentary’s directors, says that the album is political — featuring songs about gun control, as well as rights for minorities, women and the LGBTQIA+ community — which, in turn, makes the film political as well. “If you distill the songs, those themes are already there, so to bring those themes [to the film] was easy,” Xico told The Hollywood Reporter. “Madonna is political.” Xico and fellow directors Sasha Kasiuha and Ricardo Gomes worked long hours, sometimes six days a week, as Kasiuha noted that collaborating with Madonna was “intense” and “exciting.” “It’s great. You get to ...

Harry Styles Offers ‘The Notebook’-Inspired Dating Advice During a Concert: Watch

Harry Styles turned into a relationship guru on stage during his concert Wednesday night (Sept. 22) when a concertgoer held up a sign that read, “Should I text him?” The “Treat People With Kindness” pop star, who’s been back on the road for his rescheduled Love On Tour, paused his show in St. Paul, Minn., to advise the attendee on the best course of action while asking a very important (and on brand) question. “Is he nice to you?” he first asked, addressing the fine line between wondering if she should text at all or text him again. “In my opinion, if you should, this isn’t even a question. If we’re wondering if we’re playing games. If we’re wondering, ‘Should I text him? Should I not text him? I can...

The Weeknd Sued for Copyright Infringement Over “Call Out My Name”

The Weeknd is being taken to court over alleged copyright infringement on his song “Call Out My Name.” According to a report by Pitchfork, producers Suniel Fox and Henry Strange, who collaborator as Epikker, filed the lawsuit on September 17th alleging that the track from the singer’s 2018 EP My Dear Melancholy is “strikingly and/or substantially similar, if not identical” to their own song “Vibeking” from 2015. The Weeknd’s collaborators Nicolás Jaar and Frank Dukes were also named in the suit. In the filing, Fox and Strange point out several similarities in the two songs, including that “Call Out My Name” uses the same scale degrees as “Vibeking,” particularly in the hook’s melody. “Both works are in a minor key. Both works are in a 6/8 meter that is less common in popular music. Both wo...

Lizzo Covers BTS’ “Butter” at BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge: Watch

Lizzo’s talent for covers is well known, and during a recent visit to the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, she showed love to the biggest K-pop band on the planet. During the appearance, Lizzo tipped her hat to BTS by performing their No. 1 hit, “Butter.” While BTS’s original iteration of “Butter” is a shimmery, synth-pop jam, Lizzo tones it down a notch with a more spare crew of backup musicians and singers. Her version gives the track a retro, funky flair that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Parliament record. Before diving into “Butter,” Lizzo also performed her latest single “Rumors” sans Cardi B. You can listen to both below. Back in early 2020, the rapper/singer/flautist trifecta wowed us with a cover of her pal Harry Styles’ “Adore You” for BBC Radio 1. It came on the heels of Styles’ take...

Rihanna Explains How She & A$AP Rocky Almost Missed the 2021 Met Gala

Seems like RiRi and Rocky are a match made at the Met and in heaven since he doesn’t seem to be the kind of man who turns the 33-year-old billionaire entertainment mogul off, which she described in the new interview as “a man that doesn’t smell good and sits on his ass all day,” she said, adding, “There’s so many opportunities out there. You’ve got to go find one or make one.” The 32-year-old A$AP Mob rapper has had plenty of opportunities to perform at the latest music festivals, from July’s Rolling Loud Miami he co-headlined to last weekend’s Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas to this coming weekend’s Governors Ball in New York, where he’s listed as one of the headliners. Rocky also gushed about feeling “...

Madonna Defends Billie Eilish Changing Her Image: “We Still Live in a Very Sexist World”

Billie Eilish is on the cover of Elle this month discussing her evolving style, and she’s got a major pop predecessor in her corner when it comes to changing up her look: Madonna. For the cover story, Her Madgesty ardently defended the younger pop star, who’s faced significant backlash for the more body-conscious styles she’s been wearing in the era for her sophomore album Happier Than Ever. “The problem is, we still live in a very sexist world where women are put into categories,” the “Bitch, I’m Madonna” singer told the magazine. “You’re either in the virgin category or the whore category. Billie started off in a non-sexualized category, not pandering to the masses and not using her sexuality in any way, which is her choice and God bless her for that — after all, she’s been a teenager al...

Weezer’s Pinkerton at 25: The Band Has Moved On, Though We Never May Do the Same

Weezer isn’t giving interviews about Pinkerton for its 25th anniversary. There’s no big press push promoting a deluxe vinyl reissue of the album celebrating its quarter-century of existence. (As of press time, you can’t even buy Pinkerton from the band’s merch store, though it is readily available elsewhere.) This relative silence about an auspicious milestone (which will officially occur on September 24th) for one of their best-loved and most influential records might seem a little odd. But maybe Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, whose intensely personal songwriting drives this 10-song, 34-minute record, doesn’t feel like there’s any advantage to speaking further on the subject. Clearly, the band has moved on; though they took a five-year break after Pinkerton that was, at the time, commonly ...
