Telkom Makes New Changes to Board

Telkom has made new changes to its board committees. In a recent statement, the telco says “shareholders are advised that Telkom will reconstitute various of its Board Committees with effect from 28 September 2020.” Here is a closer look the changes that Telkom will make to its board committees: Botha will resign from the nominations committee and the remuneration committees Dolly Mokgatle will be appointed as a member of the nominations committee Sibusiso Sibisi will be appointed as a member of the risk committee Rex Tomlinson will be appointed as the chairman of the remuneration committee and a member of the nominations committee. Telkom SA Signs Roaming Agreement with Telenor

Kenyan Telcos could Compensate Users for Network Outages

Safaricom, Telkom and Airtel Kenya have decided to compensate customers who experience interrupted services due to network outages, reports Gadgets Africa. This comes shortly after the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) issued new draft regulations “to compel telcos to either pay or offer credit equivalent of the time users are without voice, data and SMS services”. These guidelines are said to be part of the Kenyan governments “effort to shield the millions of subscribers across the country from poor services related to network outages which include lack of internet connections”. This comes after the telco revealed that Santie Botha and Khanyisile Kweyama, both independent non-executive directors, have made the decision to retire, with effect from 25 September 2020 and 31 December 2020 respectively. Google and Telkom Launch Balloon-Powered Internet Service in Kenya

Image sourced from MIT Technology Review Google’s Loon Project and Telkom Kenya have announced that it’s balloon-powered mobile Internet service is now available and covers more than 50,000 sq.km of the country with a fleet of 35 balloons – specific areas include Iten, Eldoret, Baringo, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, Bomet, Kericho and Narok. According to the companies, this is the first balloon-powered internet to launch in Africa and the first non-emergency commercial deployment in the world.
