The Twisted Metal video game franchise is being adapted into a live-action TV series by Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, according to Variety. Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are developing the show, which is described as an action comedy. The first Twisted Metal game came out in 1995 and the most recent one was released for the PlayStation 3 in 2012. The gameplay centered on the Twisted Metal demolition derby, where a number of drivers battle it out with missiles and machine guns until only one car remains. The winner is granted a wish by the game’s host, the demonic Calypso, who would typically twist the victor’s desire in dark irony. Harry Shearer No Longer Voicing Dr. Hibbert on The Simpsons
Back in June, The Simpsons producers announced that white actors would stop playing people of color in an effort to diversify its voice cast. As Vulture points out, Sunday’s episode, titled “Diary Queen”, marked the last time Harry Shearer voiced the character of Dr. Julius Hibbert, who is Black. Going forward, Kevin Michael Richardson will take over the role. Richardson has worked on more than 70 Simpsons episodes in the past. He has also voiced characters on Family Guy, American Dad, and SpongeBob SquarePants. His casting on The Simpsons is the latest in a string of moves made by the show’s producers. Shortly after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1978, Anthony Bourdain spent his days cooking in some of the most famous restaurants in New York City. In his free time, he started publishing works of fiction, too, but it was only his nonfiction short stories and books like Kitchen Confidential that ever received widespread attention. It looks like that’s about to change, because Bourdain’s second novel, the 1997 crime thriller Gone Bamboo, has just been picked up for a TV series adaptation. Producers Webster and Robert Stone have acquired the rights to Gone Bamboo and plan to create a pilot for a scripted series, reports Deadline. The man behind Game of Thrones is executive producing an adaptation of novelist Roger Zelazny’s sci-fi book Roadmarks alongside writer, EP, and showrunner Kalinda Vazquez.
