Mackenzie just embarked on a big life change: The mother of three and her munchkins moved to Florida for “a job opportunity” during tonight’s Teen Mom OG episode. Back in June, The Simpsons producers announced that white actors would stop playing people of color in an effort to diversify its voice cast. As Vulture points out, Sunday’s episode, titled “Diary Queen”, marked the last time Harry Shearer voiced the character of Dr. Julius Hibbert, who is Black. Going forward, Kevin Michael Richardson will take over the role. Richardson has worked on more than 70 Simpsons episodes in the past. He has also voiced characters on Family Guy, American Dad, and SpongeBob SquarePants. His casting on The Simpsons is the latest in a string of moves made by the show’s producers. Alex Désert was brought on to voice Homer’s co-worker Carl Carlson (previously played by Hank Azaria), and Jenny Yokobori was cast as wife of Comic Book Guy Kumiko Alber...
Shortly after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1978, Anthony Bourdain spent his days cooking in some of the most famous restaurants in New York City. In his free time, he started publishing works of fiction, too, but it was only his nonfiction short stories and books like Kitchen Confidential that ever received widespread attention. It looks like that’s about to change, because Bourdain’s second novel, the 1997 crime thriller Gone Bamboo, has just been picked up for a TV series adaptation. Producers Webster and Robert Stone have acquired the rights to Gone Bamboo and plan to create a pilot for a scripted series, reports Deadline. Before now, the Stone brothers’ producing credits have included The Conspirator, Gone in Sixty Seconds, and The Negotiator — aka Hollywoo...
Robert Kirkman has become thought of largely as a horror creator, thanks to the blockbuster adaptation and subsequent spin-offs of his The Walking Dead comic and Cinemax’s short-lived Outcast series. But the comic writer has also put his unique spin on the superhero world, and one of his caped characters is finally making its way to TV. Amazon Prime Video’s new Invincible animated series is set to debut on March 26th, and the streamer has today released the first trailer. Co-created by illustrator Cory Walker, Invincible ran for 144 issues from Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment (via Image Comics) between 2003 and 2016. The book was notable for its quick-hitting and madcap take on superheroes, pairing bright, cartoon-y visuals with ultraviolence and gore. That youthful look and adult feel wi...
George R.R. Martin, photo via Henry Söderlund/WikiCommons George R.R. Martin is conjuring up more dragons for HBO, only this time, they’re not his own creations. The man behind Game of Thrones is executive producing an adaptation of novelist Roger Zelazny’s sci-fi book Roadmarks alongside writer, EP, and showrunner Kalinda Vazquez. Published in 1979, Roadmarks centers on an intertemporal highway constructed by the mysterious Dragons of Bel’kwinith. Off ramps along the route lead to different points in time in different places, with a special few individuals who have access to the Road able to travel between timelines. They can also change events in the past to alter the future, causing old exits to become inaccessible and new ones to open up. Zelazny was a personal friend of Martin before ...
