Ben Savage Is Running for West Hollywood City Council

Boy Meets World star Ben Savage has put in a bid for West Hollywood City Council, Gawker reports. A West Hollywood City Clerk confirmed that he filed and qualified as a candidate in the election, which occurs this November. On his campaign website, Savage bemoans “political divisiveness and loss of a sense of community” occurring in West Hollywood and lists public safety, struggling businesses, inflation, and the cost of housing among the challenges he hopes to tackle. Noting a rising cost of living in the city has caused longtime renters to be forced out of their homes, Savage promises “supportive and deed-restricted housing” and says he will “explore every single avenue to bring down the cost of new housing.” He also points to community safety as another priority, opining that law e...

Better Call Saul: 7 Big Questions About the Series Finale, Answered

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers through the series finale of Better Call Saul, “Saul Gone.”] There’s so much to be asked, when one of television’s great achievements comes to an end. So the morning after the Better Call Saul series finale aired, co-creator Peter Gould and stars Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn very generously spoke with reporters via Zoom for a press conference that explored so many aspects of the final episode, “Saul Gone.” Below, Gould, Odenkirk, and Seehorn answer maybe not all, but at least a few of the biggest questions from the end of the season, from the choice to continue filming in black and white, what was cut from the finale, and when the idea to have Jimmy end up in prison first came up (and why that nearly caused problems with another Breaking Bad...

The Undeclared War Is a Prescient But Ponderous Cyberthriller: Review

The Pitch: It’s 2024, and a post-Brexit Great Britain faces a general election beset on all sides with misinformation, anti-government grievance, and stark division on all sides. What’s more, a foreign cyberattack hits the country’s Internet access, hitting everything except social media. Luckily, it hits the same day 21-year-old student Saara Parvan (newcomer Hannah Khalique-Brown) starts her work placement stint at the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), the UK’s first defense against cyberterrorism. She quickly figures out how to disable it, and even finds a second exploit that would have further crippled England’s infrastructure. It’s a hollow victory, though, as the young Muslim woman struggles to fit into the “tediously male, stale, and pale” organization even after her im...

Better Call Saul Series Finale Review: This Is How They Get You

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers through the series finale of Better Call Saul, “Saul Gone.”] Sometimes you hit play on an episode of television and see the runtime and groan to yourself, “This did not need to be longer than an hour.” But with the Better Call Saul series finale, coming in at a cool 70-plus minutes (per AMC+, anyway), every extra second of goodbye was quite welcome. After Gene Takovic (Bob Odenkirk)’s unsuccessful attempt to flee the law, as summoned by that nice old lady Marion (Carol Burnett), the identity of Gene is shed forever (following one last diligent phone call to Krista at Cinnabon). Instead, Saul Goodman suits up (eventually literally), using his formidable weaseling abilities to weasel out of “life plus 190 years” for the many, many crimes he com...

John Wick Spinoff Series The Continental Moves to Peacock in Multi-Year Deal

Action junkies are in luck today, because Peacock has announced a multi-year deal for  The Continental, a highly anticipated three-part special event based on the blockbuster John Wick films. Premiering in 2023, the limited series will explore the origin story of the Continental Hotel, a refuge and meeting ground for hit men and assassins. Set in 1975 New York, The Continental is told from the point of view of a young Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), who we know eventually becomes the hotel’s manager. The series will focus on Winston’s dangerous quest to seize control of the hotel, which serves as a rendezvous point for some of the world’s deadliest criminals. The announced cast so far is rounded out with Ayomide Adegun as Charon, Peter Greene as Uncle Charlie, Mel Gibson as Cormac, Ben...

Archer Season 13 Retains the Show’s Signature Amusement and Absurdity: Review

The Pitch: Typically, the longer a hit program goes on, the harder it is for it to maintain its quality and relevance. Thus, Archer’s ability to mostly preserve its trademark wittiness, ridiculousness, and audaciousness across 12 seasons (and 12 years) is commendable. Admittedly, some fans and reviewers feel that it’s fallen from grace in some ways — and maybe it has — but it’s hard to deny that the show remains immensely clever, fun, and (at times) moving. The Season 12 finale “Mission: Difficult” cemented all of that very well. For one thing, it found its lovable band of dysfunctional spies dishing out plenty of biting quips and explosive action before ultimately being acquired by a rival company called the International Intelligence Agency, or IIA, run by British mogul Fabian Kingsworth...

Westworld Composer on Ending Season 4 With Radiohead and What Might Happen in Season 5

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers through the Season 4 finale of Westworld, “Que Sera Sera.” To read about the music of Episode 7, click here.] “We’re finally back to Radiohead,” Ramin Djawadi laughs, at the beginning of our final conversation about Westworld Season 4. “I never actually counted, but I feel like we’ve done Radiohead the most — we’re all big Radiohead fans. So this being the final episode we said, you know, ‘It’s time for some Radiohead now. We need another Radiohead song.’” As the Emmy-winning composer has exclusively discussed with Consequence all season long, the unexpected twists and turns of the HBO sci-fi drama have often extended towards the music, calling upon Djawadi’s talent for recreating well-known pop and rock tunes using Westworld’s signatur...

Tales of the Walking Dead Somewhat Succeeds at Putting Fresh Paint on a Fading Franchise: Review

The Pitch: The Walking Dead, the flagship show of the long-running zombie apocalypse franchise, is finally coming to an end later this year after 11 seasons. But the Walking Dead universe is showing no signs of slowing down, with multiple spin-offs on the horizon, including ones for fan-favorite Daryl as well as Maggie and Negan, but the first to premiere is the anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead. The series, created by Walking Dead honcho Scott M. Gimple and franchise stalwart Channing Powell, gives a level of freedom never seen before in the Walking Dead universe, allowing new writers, directors, and stars to tell stand-alone tales of the zombie outbreak. As with any anthology, quality can vary wildly between entries, but the three episodes provided for review are more good than ...

A League of Their Own’s Cast and Creators on Why the Show’s Groundbreaking Representation Was “Only Possible Right Now”

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for A League of Their Own, Season 1 Episode 6, “Stealing Home.”] As A League of Their Own co-creator/star Abbi Jacobson tells Consequence, the original film which inspired her new Amazon Prime Video series “is iconic and important to all of us. It’s just people’s favorite movie. So the film doesn’t need to be remade — and we were really focused on telling the stories that were not told in the film for whatever reason.” Those reasons might include, in Jacobson’s words, “the limitations of what stories people were telling in 1992.” For a lot of things have changed between 1992 and 2022, but here’s a big one: Jacobson feels pretty sure that the adaptation’s groundbreaking approach to LGBTQ+ representation could only happen today: “I think a lot ...

Tegan and Sara Navigate Adolescence in First Teaser Trailer for High School: Watch

Tegan and Sara are just a pair of precocious girls navigating adolescence in the first teaser trailer for High School. Based on their memoir of the same name, the series will premiere October 14th on Amazon Freevee. While many people view the singer-songwriters as an inseparable duo, the new teaser focuses on their glaring disagreements. “What happened to your eye?” a girl asks in the high school bathroom. “My sister punched me in the face,” comes the reply. When questioned if they’re twins, one says, “No,” as one says, “Yeah,” and later we hear the complaint, “We’ve had to share everything.” But just because they squabble, that doesn’t mean they don’t love each other. Towards the end of the teaser, we see them pick up a guitar and write a song, singing togeth...

Mark Ruffalo Says Too Much Marvel Better Than Getting “The Same Version of Star Wars Each Time”

Marvel has released two films and two TV shows this year, with one more of each on the horizon. They also dropped a series of Groot animated shorts, and there are still two Disney+ specials on the way. That’s a slow year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point; there are four films and six shows on the schedule for 2023. But one of the franchise’s stars, Mark Ruffalo, isn’t concerned with Marvel over-saturation — because at least it’s not Star Wars. Speaking with UK’s Metro about his return to playing Hulk in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Ruffalo said too much Marvel content is “not something I worry about.” He noted that big franchises like this always “run their course” and get replaced by something new, but praised Marvel for its variety. “The thing Marvel has done w...
