Anne Heche, the actress known for her roles in films like Six Days Seven Nights, Donnie Brasco, and Volcano, has died from injuries sustained in a car crash that occurred on August 5th, according to the Guardian. She was 53. “Today we lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend,” a rep for Heche said in a statement on behalf of her family and friends. “Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy. Director Katie Aselton on Moving From Mumblecore to Mack and Rita

In Los Angeles, it feels like everyone wants to be young — except for Mackenzie “Mack” Martin (Elizabeth Lail), a 30-year-old woman who’s ready to skip to her senior citizen days and live her best life. Cue some magical realism (via an ad hoc past lives regression machine/tanning bed), and Mack finds her consciousness now inside a 70-something woman who starts going by Rita (Diane Keaton). It’s a fun, 2022-esque spin on high-concept body-swap classics like Big and Freaky Friday, which did mark a big change from director Katie Aselton’s past experiences as a filmmaker. While Katie Aselton’s not a first-time director, she tells Consequence that she was eager to take on this project because “I hadn’t done a full-fledged comedy as a director, so I was really excited to lean into that.” Plus, s...

Cobra Kai Season 5: Everything We Know About the Netflix Show’s Return

Nearly 40 years after Mr. Miyagi famously taught Daniel LaRusso how to paint a fence and wash a car in the original Karate Kid films, the Miyagi-verse has expanded exponentially, beginning with the release of Cobra Kai, a Netflix original series spin-off of the iconic franchise. The series reunites William Zabka and Ralph Macchio in their breakout roles, while introducing a whole new crew of karate kids. Premiering in 2018, Cobra Kai has answered the question: What happens to Daniel after his time with Mr. Miyagi? Since their days with Mr. Miyagi, Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), and his peer, Johnny Lawerence (Zabka) have started their own dojos, mentoring a new gang of fighters. Since its conception, the show has re-sparked love for the original films and become one of Netflix’s most streamed s...

Anne Heche: Toxicology Report Indicates Presence of Drugs at Time of Crash

Actor Anne Heche, 53, remains in a coma following a high-speed car crash into a Los Angeles home on August 5th. Law enforcement officials conducted a toxicology report from blood drawn at the hospital, and according to TMZ, Heche had cocaine in her system at the time of the accident. The blood sample also showed the presence of fentanyl. It’s unclear at this time if the drug was administered by hospital staff after the crash or taken by Heche beforehand. No evidence of alcohol was found, which is notable because TMZ obtained a photo that appeared to show a bottle of alcohol in the cupholder of her Mini Cooper. As a result of the toxicology report, Heche is being investigated for felony DUI, the Los Angeles Police Department told CNN. Advertisement Related Video Heche was driving throu...

Jon Batiste is leaving his role as band leader of Late Show with Stephen Colbert after seven seasons. Anne Heche Not Expected to Survive: Representative

Anne Heche is “not expected to survive” the injuries she sustained after crashing her car into a Los Angeles home last Friday. A representative for Heche told People that the actress suffered “a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition” as of Thursday night. “It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she’s being kept on life support to determine if any are viable,” the representative added. Advertisement Related Video The crash caused the home to catch on fire, and it took 59 firefighters over an hour to battle the blaze and safely pull Heche out of the wreckage. Heche was initially able to communicate, but lost consciousness a short time later. In a previous statement, Heche’s representative said that she suffered “a significant pulmonary injury r...

Matt Stone and Trey Parker Celebrate 25 Years of South Park with RUSH, Primus, and Ween

A small girl sarcastically sang “JOE BIDEN TOOK OUR JOBS!” into a microphone while South Park co-creator Matt Stone laughed uproariously, Dean and Gene Ween provided backup vocals, Primus’ Les Claypool played bass and Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush sat silently smiling. The plumes of smoke emanating from the 9,545 fans jammed into Red Rocks Amphitheatre were especially thick at this moment on Wednesday night (August 10th). It was the second of two sold-out South Park 25th-anniversary shows, starring Stone and his partner, Trey Parker, as ringleaders of a circus in which Ween performed on stage left, Primus manned stage right and “Blame Canada,” “Uncle Fucka,” “What Would Brian Boitano Do?” and other profane “South Park” classics wafted from the middle. If the satire didn’t always come ...

Steve Martin Teases Retirement from Acting: “This Is, Weirdly, It”

Steve Martin is experiencing an unexpected career resurgence thanks to his endearing, Emmy-nominated performance in Only Murders in the Building, but that doesn’t mean the actor hasn’t considered the possibility of retirement. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Martin said he doesn’t plan on looking for other work after the Hulu series is over. Prior to Only Murders, Martin made a comeback to standup comedy with his future co-star on the show, Martin Short, but had otherwise largely stepped away from his acting career. “We were very happy just doing the live show,” Martin told THR. “There may be a natural end to that — somebody gets sick, somebody just wears out — but I wouldn’t do it without Marty. When this television show is done, I’m not going to seek others. I’m...

Beavis and Butt-Head Are Quite the Catch in Preview Clip of Episode 3: Exclusive

The clip opens with everyone’s favorite butt munchers paddling down the river like Huck Finn (more like, ‘Suck my Finn,’ heh heh heh). Beavis is feeling a little snackish, and luckily he spots a tasty treat: a gummy worm, or so he thinks. What follows is a classic bit of slapstick that wouldn’t have been out of place in golden age silent movie. Check it out after the jump. So far, the revived series has been a mix of old pleasures and new surprises, including Beavis’ e...

A League of Their Own Review: The Series Adaptation Remixes the Classic Film From Overlooked Points-of-View

The Pitch: You might think you know this story… but you don’t. The Penny Marshall film A League of Their Own, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, was a landmark production as well as a damn great sports movie, chronicling the inaugural season of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, despite the 1943-era sexism that had men chanting from the stands, “Girls can’t play ball!” As groundbreaking as the original film was, 1992 was a long time ago. So in creating a new take on A League of Their Own as a TV show, co-creators Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and Will Graham (Mozart In the Jungle) have effectively made a remix of the original film, fully centered in the underrepresented voices that, in the movie, only lurked at the edges of the frame. The story is still focused on h...
