The Beach Boys have rescheduled their remaining summer tour dates so that Mike Love, the only original member in the touring band, can rest and “recharge.”
“Playing for you is the highlight of our summer every year — especially as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States while saluting the 60th Anniversary of Pet Sounds,” a statement on Love’s official Instagram page reads. “We’ve been having a blast out there, and to keep the good vibrations going strong, we’ll be taking a short break to recharge before getting back on the road in September… Thanks for your love — we can’t wait to see you back out there for a September to Remember.”
The statement adds, “All tickets for postponed performances (July 23 through September 3) will be honored following our return in late September.”
As mentioned, Love is the only remaining classic-era Beach Boy still touring after Bruce Johnston exited earlier this year. There have been concerns about the 85-year-old’s health as the group has played shows across North America and Europe this year.

In a Slate review of their May 30th concert at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey, writer Luke Winkie described Love as looking “sallow and enfeebled; legs stiff, arms flat by his side. When he opened his mouth to sing, his once resonant tenor was reduced to a whisper, all warbled, strange, and barely there, decimated by the encumbering decades. My friend shot me an ashen look, the same one I remember him giving me during the opening salvo of the doomed Joe Biden debate.”
Days after that show, The Beach Boys canceled a series of dates due to Love suffering from an unspecified illness. Though the band resumed touring on June 14th, his vocal issues persisted through their latest gig on July 18th.
For now, The Beach Boys will head back on the road on September 24th in Springfield, Massachusetts, with subsequent stops including Cincinnati, Nashville, Calgary, and Orlando.
