When I was younger, I always thought that as I got older and developed my personal style, I would stop borrowing—or stealing—clothing from my mom. In fact, it’s been quite the opposite. Now, almost 30, I leave a bag full of items when I go home, and every time she visits my apartment, she leaves with the same number of items. Despite our very different styles and a 34-year age gap, we’re still able to share clothing and, at the very least, agree on what we think is chic and worth splurging on.
I’m always curious about what my mom is into fashion-wise because she used to work in the industry and is very in tune with her personal style. Recently, during the holidays, I sat down with her at the computer to browse our three favorite sites—Reformation, Nordstrom, and Zara. She added items to her digital shopping cart, and I did the same. Then we talked about what we liked. To no surprise, we shared many interests.
