Scott Free Productions and Ridley Scott are officially setting sail on a brand-new film adaptation of the classic novel Treasure Island. Generating significant industry buzz, the highly anticipated movie package features Scott in the director’s chair, while Hugh Jackman is locked in to star as the legendary pirate Long John Silver.

The upcoming film promises a fresh cinematic take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s iconic 1883 adventure novel. The foundational story follows a young Jim Hawkins, who embarks on a dangerous sea voyage after discovering a map to a hidden fortune. Along the way, Hawkins finds himself locked in a perilous battle of wits with the charismatic and treacherous Silver. Providing the blueprint for the new adaptation, the script is penned by Emmy-winning Adolescence writer Jack Thorne.

Behind the scenes, the project is being produced by Scott alongside Michael Pruss under the Scott Free production banner. While the film currently does not have a studio attached, the package is actively hitting the market for major buyers. Notably, 20th Century Studios and Disney initially reviewed the pitch but ultimately passed, opting to prioritize their in-house Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to avoid developing overlapping pirate-themed properties.
