Jasmine Thompson didn’t originally imagine her song would wind up in Zedd‘s hands, but as she knows well, life has a funny way of playing out. In an interview with Kansas City CBS affiliate KCTV5, the London-based singer-songwriter recalled that her producers sent an early demo of “Funny” to Zedd without her knowledge. Thompson said she initially had a vision that the melancholic single would be piano-driven, but once Zedd sent back his version, it instantly won her over. “The idea of collaborating with him was life-changing,” she said. MESHUGGAH has canceled its plans to reschedule the band’s 2020 festival appearances for next year. Although the Swedish extreme tech-metal pioneers were hoping to play the same festivals in 2021 that ended up being canceled this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, scheduling conflicts have forced them to scrap the shows altogether. Digital devices are now the dominant method of listening to music, and the coronavirus seems to be behind the latest growth wave. For the first time since Edison Research began documenting audio consumption with its Share of Ear study in 2014, digital and on-demand platforms owned over half of consumers’ time spent listening during the second quarter of 2020. Listeners accessed music through smartphones, computers, internet-connected TVs and smart speakers during 53% of their listening hours. The other 47% of listening came through more traditional means, such as AM/ FM receivers, SiriusXM devices, CD players, turntables and standard TV.
