Cancel Alert: CrossFit CEO Tweets Racist Remark, Reeboks Ends Partnership

Source: Reebok / Reebok When will brands learn that any slick talk concerning our people or plight will not be tolerated? One company got a swift reminder last week. As spotted on High Snobiety the CEO of CrossFit showed his true colors when he responded to a post from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation saying “Racism and discrimination are critical public health issues that demand an urgent response. #BlackLivesMatter”. To which Greg Glassman said “It’s FLOYD-19”. Naturally his response left a very sour taste in many people’s mouths; regardless of gender or race. So much so the tweet went viral causing some of the fitness league’s partners to act accordingly.  It’s FLOYD-19. — Greg Glassman (@CrossFitCEO) June 6, 2020 According to The Morning Chalk Up Ree...

BTS Donated $1 Million To Black Lives Matter — Then Fans Topped It

Last week, South Korean superstars BTS declared their solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, releasing a statement specifying that they “stand against racial discrimination” and “condemn violence.” Now, the seven Bangtan boys — Jin, Jimin, RM, Jungkook, J-Hope, Suga, and V — are putting their money where their tweets are. Last week, BTS and their label, Big Hit Entertainment, quietly donated $1 million to Black Lives Matter, Variety reported on Saturday (June 6). The move came as demonstrations around the globe continue, protesting systemic racism and police brutality against the Black community in the United States, particularly, in the wake of the murders of unarmed Black citizens George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and many ot...

Watch Camila Cabello, Khalid, Noah Cyrus, And More Sing For The Class Of 2020

Over the weekend, YouTube threw a big livestreamed celebration to honor the graduating class of 2020 — the ones who don’t have the distinction of an in-person graduation ceremony thanks to COVID-19 and its associated risks with mass gatherings. Lizzo played flute. Beyoncé and Michelle Obama gave inspirational speeches, as did BTS. Dear Class of 2020 was, in fact, a nice event. Early on in the program, Bono addressed the graduates with a message about the ongoing anti-racial violence protests that have backdropped the country since the police killing of George Floyd on May 25. “For many Black Americans, Lady Liberty’s torch is far from a beacon of hope. It’s often a flashlight in the face,” he said, introducing his band U2’s song “Beautiful Day.R...

Hell Will Come For Us All – AVERSIONS CROWN

RATING: 8/10 Despite returning to an increasingly crowded and diverse deathcore marketplace, AVERSIONS CROWN still sound determined to crush everything in their path. Although routinely overshadowed by lesser bands, the Australians’ distinctive take on a well-worn formula has provided this metallic substrain with some of its most murderous moments over the last decade. Like fellow countrymen THY ART IS MURDER, the Brisbane quartet have far more old-school death metal lurking in their musical DNA than first impressions might suggest, but it’s their nurturing of deathcore’s dramatic instincts and subversive potential that ensures that “Hell Will Come For Us All” is another patently superior piece of work. If you like to listen to metal that exerts bruising physi...

Australia’s Concert Industry Introduces $345 Million COVID-19 Rebuilding Plan

Live Performance Australia, a prominent body representing promoters, event producers, theatres, concert venues, performing arts centres, arts and music festivals, and more, have formulated an AUD $345 million rebuilding proposal for the live entertainment industry. In 2018, Australia’s concert industry was worth USD $1.4 billion in ticket sales alone. However, according to a report from Digital Music News, the Australian music sector has lost AUD $340 million this year following sweeping cancellations in the wake of COVID-19. Live Performance Australia’s two-year “COVID-19: Live Performance Industry Rebuild & Recovery Package” poses that a similar figure will need to be disbursed in its goal to reopen Australia’s live concert industry, which...

Take a Look Inside This Socially-Distant, Seated Techno Show in The Netherlands

While the days of loud, packed dancefloors are behind us for the time being, artists and venues have begun to get creative with how they deliver authentic live music experiences to fans. Many have chosen to go digital with livestreamed events, but they can only replicate the experience so much.  Doornroosje in The Netherlands decided to take things a step further and host a physical, socially-distant show last weekend. Due to the country only allowing thirty patrons inside a bar or venue at a time, that was the number of concertgoers in attendance at the event. Attendees were required to remain seated during the performances and each chair was spaced about five feet apart. Below are some pictures and videos from the social distancing-compliant techno night. As you can see, although th...

Carnage Pays Tribute to George Floyd at Drive-In Rave with Collective Moment of Silence

At his recent “Road Rave” drive-in concert in Chandler, Arizona, Carnage kicked things off by paying tribute to George Floyd, who recently died at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer. Calling for a collective moment of silence along with the show’s supporting artists, who joined him on stage, Carnage addressed the crowd at the onset. “Black lives matter, and we need to come together and do this for all the people across the [expletive] country,” he declared in front of hundreds of ravers in their vehicles, who blinked their hazard lights in support. Speaking to TMZ about the show, Carnage waxed poetic about his tribute and what it meant to the Black Lives Matter movement. “First thing I did before I even started my set, I brought out...
