Surviving Rush members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson reunited on stage last night (Aug. 10) for the first time since drummer Neil Peart’s January 2020 death as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of South Park at Red Rocks Amphitheater outside Denver. The musicians performed Rush’s “Closer to the Heart” with members of Primus and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone joining in. Beforehand, Lee and Lifeson appeared “live from Canada” on-screen in animated form, first complaining about the beloved South Park song “Blame Canada” and then deciding to “show up and jam.” In a knowing nod to what was to come, Primus performed “Closer to the Heart” the night before at the first South Park bash. Last night, Stone lent a hand on drums, even taking a brief solo at Primus frontman Les Clay...

Weezer’s planned Broadway residency, which was to constitute Sept. 13-18 shows at the Broadway Theatre, has been canceled “due to low ticket sales and unbelievably high expenses,” according to a Discord post from frontman Rivers Cuomo. In spite of the announcement, tickets remain on sale for all five shows; SPIN has requested further comment from Weezer’s publicist and management. During SZNZ: In Residence On Broadway, Weezer was planning to play each of its four SZNZ EPs in their entirety, with a fifth date added for an “encore.” Each night was also supposed to feature “a unique set of Weezer classics.” “I’m very sorry to be telling you this now after we’ve already invested so much time, thought and emotion,” Cuomo said. “Extra apologies to those of you who cleared schedules and made trav...
The great return of Yeah Yeah Yeahs continues today with the New York City indie stalwarts’ latest single “Burning,” the next preview of their forthcoming album Cool It Down. Produced by Andrew Wyatt, “Burning” is pure disco-coated dance floor fuel. It’s driven by a vigorous piano riff, inspired by Frankie Valli’s “Beggin’” as well as Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.” The story of the song dates back to a fateful night when Karen O was 19: The vocalist had gone out for an impromptu drink with her roommate, and returned shortly after to find her East Village apartment engulfed in flames due to a candle she’d forgotten to put out. All her electronics, including her computer and cameras, were completely destroyed. “But oddly enough the items that held the most sentimental value rem...
Ezra Miller has been in the news a lot lately, and it hasn’t been about The Flash. The embattled actor has been arrested three times this year alone on charges of disorderly conduct, assault, and felony burglary, and they’ve faced accusations of grooming underage children and running a cult. To quote one person on Twitter, “Every time I see the words ‘Ezra Miller’ I know it’s about to be followed by the strangest combination of crime and location.” Needless to say, it’s a lot to keep track of, which is why we’ve compiled a timeline of Miller’s mounting controversies. June 28th, 2011: Teenage Hijinks Miller’s first brush with the law was hardly as serious as their more recent incidents, but it’s worth noting that their legal troubles didn’t begin in 2022. Back in 2011, while filmi...
Marcus Mumford’s solo career has been deeply personal in way that Mumford and Sons rarely approached, starting from the very first lines of his debut single, “Cannibal”: ““I can still taste you and I hate it/ That wasn’t a choice in the mind of a child and you knew it.” Now, the folk pop powerhouse has opened up in a new interview with GQ, sharing some details about his path to mental wellness after childhood sexual abuse. “Like lots of people — and I’m learning more and more about this as we go and as I play it to people — I was sexually abused as a child,” Mumford said. “Not by family and not in the church, which might be some people’s assumption. But I hadn’t told anyone about it for 30 years.” Mumford first began dealing with that trauma in 2019, after the release of Mumford and Sons’&...
